Intel HD 4000 outperfoming nvidia 640M...? Help !

I installed CS Source on my new Genesis IV and run the CS Source Benchmark on 1366x768 with everything maxed out. I got a benchmark of ~30 fps.

This seemed incredibly low for the 640m, so I went into nvidia control panel and changed the option from default to always use the dedicated gfx. I ran the test again with the same result.

Now I switched it to integrated graphics and ran the test again, and this time I get ~42 fps ??

The driver's are latest ones available....what is going on ?

You'd think that it wouldn't, but when you're on battery power the GPU throttles back significantly to conserve the battery life and as far as I'm aware there is no way to stop this happening. On my Skyfire II my 670M is about as much use as HD3000 graphics - if you want to game I'm afraid it has to be on AC power sadly. I'd be interested to see how your 640M stacks up though: see this thread http://www.pcspecialist.co.uk/forum...ant-to-game-on-battery-Forget-a-dedicated-GPU. Obviously no obligation but it's interesting to see how different GPUs differ on battery to mains.

You might be able to override this by changing the advanced power settings? Even the "High Performance" mode on Windows 7 throttles the GPU by default.

If you click the battery icon and click 'more power options' and 'change plan settings' for one of the plans, then 'change advanced power settings' do you have an option for the dedicated NVIDIA graphics? For example I have 'ATI graphics power settings' at the bottom of the list. Changing from 'maximize battery life' to 'maximize performance' should solve this (as well as murder the battery in record time)!

I wish there was but it must only be for ATI graphics cards - looked through every option just to make sure as well.

Just to be sure, try playing it while charging and with the power setting set to High Performance, and report back. That will cut out the most likely issues.

Just tried it on mains:

On battery: 30 fps
On mains: 53 fps
On mains with performance in power options: 58 fps

This winds me up so much especially the performance bit, if you have a graphic card and are plugged in why on gods green earth would you want to throttle power to the gpu.

Also 60 fps is a bit embarrassing on a game that's like 500 years old.

The problem is still here, I just figured out that the benchmarks are not using the the nvidia card as I disabled it in the nvidia settings and ran the benchmark with the integrated card and got 53 fps.

How the hell do you disable the optimus technology or whatever. Disabling it in the nvidia panel doesn't seem to work.:taz:

What CPU are you using? If it's an i7, apparently they don't have integrated available (even though they do, but PCS seem to be doing something different).

Nevermind I got the latest drivers (released today), everything seems fine now.
