Intel smart response technology on Oprimus III 15.6"?

Hey there, I would like to know if intel smart response is activated and possible with this laptop? I know it uses the HM77 chipset, and according to the intel website that supports smart response, but can anyone with that laptop tell me if its possible? I know that a lot of laptop manufacturers have terrible BIOS, and was wondering if anyone else had done this?

I was thinking of buying a cheap SSD and putting it into the second hard drive bay in this laptop, and using it as a cache for the standard 500GB drive you can get with the laptop (the 5400RPM one), as PCS don't stock smaller than 90 GB SSD's which would put the laptop over my budget sadly, and I don't really need it.... Would this be possible? Does anyone think this would be a good idea? and can anyone give me any recommendations of which SSD to buy?

Firstly I would not recommend a cheap SSD as the failure rate will most likely be higher.

We are currently looking into whether this will be possible; we will get back to you shortly.

Hey there, sorry about the duplicate thread, I didn't know which forum this would fit in and made the second before I realised you can delete your own threads.

Secondly, when I said cheap SSD I simply meant one with a smaller capacity, not one made by supercheapssd's inc ;)

I am still unsure what to do however, regarding what drives to get in my laptop, so any information will be helpful. Thanks

Unfortunately it is not possible to set this up on the 15.6" Optimus III. The chassis is only designed to accept one HDD by default (the second occupies the ODD bay) and therefore the BIOS does not incorporate this feature.

Really?
The config page on the website allows you to select 2 drives and an optical drive at the same time :/
I noticed that other laptops only allow you to have two drives if you select the caddy for another drive in the optical drive slot

And how is this accomplished?

If its only possible to have one hdd and one optical drive then I guess my choice is made >.<

Last time I checked, there were three laptops that can have two hard drives plus the dvd drive,
15.6" Optimus III
17.3" SkyFire II
The 17.3" Vortex III.
The vortex III LE linked above doesn't have the option of two hard drives plus dvd drive.

This laptops more expensive, but appears to have what you're looking for... Below the option for the second HDD.

Thanks, But I do not want an mSata SSD as a cahce device, they are much slower than regular sata and much more expensive, I would rather buy the optimus III with has 2 hdd bays and use one for an SSD (if thats possible PCS)
I am getting mixed info here

So, is this possible or not?

As far SSD's....they are really coming down in price. I recently bought a 256gb Samsung 830 SSD for £170...for my ageing Asus G73.....and its been brilliant.

My mistake - yes it does support two HDDs by default. However they cannot be configued in such a way that the SSD is a cache drive.

As suggested by the other forums members the best option is to select two HDDs and use the SSD as a boot drive. I wouldn't recommend a small capacity SSD though, stick to a minimum of 90GB.
