Intel VT-X for Ultranote 14"

Hi there guys,

I ordered a Ultranote 14" a year back, and I require the Intel VT-X feature enabled for University, however it is not enabled by default.

It is using an Intel i5-4210m so it supports virtualisation but upon installing Intel HAXM, it says that VT-X is disabled.

Is there any solution to this?

Many thanks.

Have you checked in BIOS ? This usually is disabled by default, so you may just have to enable it there.

Hi,

Yeah I did, the BIOS has very limited functionality on my machine. Literally no customization so I had no option to enable it.

I am on Windows 10 pro, and checked for my Hyper-v option but it is turned off unfortunately .

Hyper-V should be turned off in your case. Just make sure once you go to Control Panel -> Programs and features -> Turn Windows features on or off
.. that there are no tickboxes next to: Hyper-V or any subsections of that entry.

I am not familiar with your laptor or it's bios so I am not sure if I'll be able to help you on this. Your CPU clearly states it support VT-x so it shoudl work unless some software on your PC is currently blocking it. Did you have any other virtualization software installed at some point on yuor PC (virtualBox, Hyper-V, etc...).

I saw a post from quick google where someone said to download HAXM directly from Intel website rather than from Android Studio, maybe try that?

Hi,

Yeah I checked via windows features to see if Hyper-V was on or not, and it is definitely off.

I haven't had any previous virtualization software before.

I tried installing HAXM directly from Intel, however the install paused due to it saying that Intel VT-X was not enabled.

I have emailed PC-Specialist regarding the issue anyway. I saw there was a BIOS update in the downloads section of the website for my laptop, so maybe that is a less restricted version of the BIOS to enable VT-X. I will await a response.

Thanks for your help anyway!

You can check if your CPU have currently VT-x enabled or supported by installing Intel Processor Identification Utility. Available to download here: https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/7838/Intel-Processor-Identification-Utility-Windows-Version

* Make sure you dowload English version of this software and once installed, I think it's second Tab that will tell you whats enabled, etc...

Unfortunately only says what my CPU supports, does not say what is enabled, so wasn't much help :(
