As you can see from the details at the bottom of the screen i have a hi spec games rig , my other rigs are on vista and windows 7 and showing their age so i need to replace them with a new windows 10 pc.

I need a second rig to use as a guinea pig the idea is that if i dowload ANYTHING or try anything new i will do it on the second rig instaed of risking messing up my games rig, i have done this for years it is good practice.

So this is what i have just done , on the website i did configure desktop/intel/home office pc's , the basic listing of componants gave a price of £455 , would this be adequate as a guinea pig pc or do i need to change anything.

NOTE it will not be used for gaming just as a download and test bed pc.

Just buying the default configuration isn't a good idea. It's not designed to be a balanced system.

It has an i3 6100 when the Pentiums are a good bit cheaper and basically as good.

You might want an SSD if you're going to be restarting it a lot while you're using it.

You may want to source a cheap GPU off ebay or somewhere if things you test involve using a GPU.

Probably also worth not going for the cheapest case (no front-facing USB 3, not great for noise, not great for temps if you add a GPU). And you might as well get a cheap after market CPU cooler like the Titan to cut down on noise.

And if it's just for mucking around on, don't buy it with Windows. Use the Windows Insider test builds, dual boot Linux or whatever.

I always used to use a VM for sheep dipping etc but some of the nasties out there are getting clever at spotting they're running in a virtual machine and shutting down so yeah a physical is a good idea.
