Issue with bios post beeps and not being able to access bios

I have just received my new desktop from PC Specialist and although it boots to Windows it does so with beeps from the Bios on boot.

I have a single beep followed shortly after by 5 beeps and then it continues into Windows, I have nothing on my screen, no bios, post, no press DEL or F12 to enter bios nothing until I reach login screen for windows it is just blank. I would like to be able to get into the bios of my computer but pressing DEL, F12, F2 or F8 at what would normally be the correct time (before, during and after the beeps) has no effect and the computer continues on to windows regardless.

I have tried using advanced startup options from Windows and I believe I end up on the advanced startup screen on reboot following this but again it is just a blank screen but pressing ENTER does proceed into Windows which would be what would happen if selecting the first option of what should be on screen.

I have tried all three displayports and the one hdmi on the graphics card and they all behave the same. I am at a loss as to why I am unable to access the bios or even see something from the boot process before the windows login screen. Any help would be appreciated? I was thinking the same, but that wouldn’t explain why it was ignoring keyboard input to enter BIOS though. 🤔 What keyboard are you using? Wired or wireless?

It’s a pity your CPU is an F, or we could try using the onboard graphics.

This may be a dumb question, but are you using more that one screen? I ask because I use my monitor and my TV and, because of the idiosyncrasies in the way monitors are identified in the hardware, the BIOS splash screen, and the BIOS screen itself if I enter it, appear only on my TV. If the TV is switched off on boot then I see nothing on my monitor until the Windows login screen. If I unplug the HDMI cable to my TV then the monitor becomes the only monitor and everything appears on there.

If you're using a Bluetooth keyboard that might well not be recognised until Windows starts.

The talk of monitor got me looking into that (Razer 27 Raptor) and I found someone with a similar issue on another forum but to fix they used a firmware update tool from Nvidia for the RTX 3080.

This article on Toms Hardware also discusses it - https://www.tomshardware.com/news/nvidia-displayid-firmware-update
basically the gpu is unable to tell the motherboard my monitor's capabilities and in my case this happened whether I used hdmi or displayport.

I applied the fix from Nvidia this morning and straight away I can see the Gigabyte splash screen on boot and the 5 beeps have disappeared.

Thanks guys, now to see if I can get into the BIOS as I no longer have the 5 beeps.

It is all working now including getting into the BIOS using DEL key, it would seem that while I had the 5 beep issue and nothing on the screen it would not let me into the BIOS probably to protect from accidentally changing settings that could damage while you cant see the screen, maybe.

@IRLRobinS - It is a Kingston HyperX Keyboard although I don't think this is much use to you now as it is working

Yep. Sounds like all is well. I was wondering if it was wireless or even usb that’s plugged into a 3.0 port that might not be initialised on bios start and to suggest moving to a 2.0 port. But sounds like the device id issue was root cause.

I had no idea there was an official nVidia tool to address this, thanks so much for posting the link (y)
