Issues with my 15.6" Recoil III GTX

Hello. I bought a laptop from PCS (15" Recoil III GTX) on June 2019, which have showed some concern that need to be addressed.

1. I will first start with the most serious issue, which is that my laptop sometimes freeze and had to be forced shut down. It happened 5-10 times already and it really started to get on my nerve. The first few times it happened is when I opened multiple tabs in chrome (about 10-20 tabs), in which I thought the main cause of it, although with the laptop specs there shouldn't be any issue to open that amount tabs. Last few times it happened when I started modelling software such as Autodesk Autocad, Revit and some other programmes. It seems like I need to send back my pcs for them to fix it... again (like I had to do with my pc). It is possible that the cause is faulty RAM?

1. Second is the noise from the fan whenever I plug my laptop. Is there any way for me to prevent the laptop from making any noise? I don't mind when I'm in my room but when I'm in the library and the laptop starting to have the noise of an aeroplane engine, it really disturbs me and other people. I tried changing the battery settings but it does not make any difference.

2. Sometimes the control centre, which controls the RGB lighting of my keyboard does not start at startup and the rgb will not have my preferred settings. This is not a serious issue and only happened 2-3 times but would be great if there is any fix for it.

This is my pc specs:

Could be a RAM issue, you can test this with memtest86 if you're comfortable doing so, failing that I'd get in touch with PCS and ask for them to RMA (which you may need to do regardless if there's a fault with the RAM). Failing that a clean install of windows might get rid of any bugs / glitches which have arisen.

The fan will spin up during boot up (this is normal behavior) and I'm not sure you can stop it. You should be able to lessen the amount the fan spins up using control software but unfortunately if you're doing anything that uses the CPU/GPU in the laptop ultimately, its going to spin up to keep it cool. There may be other users here who can assist though to lessen this somewhat, I don't have one of these laptops myself so can't advise unfortunately.

As for the control software, that is a bit irritating, there must be something that's preventing it from starting, again there may be other users here who can advise.

Hello. I bought a laptop from PCS (15" Recoil III GTX) on June 2019, which have showed some concern that need to be addressed.

Which means it's still under warranty. :)

1. I will first start with the most serious issue, which is that my laptop sometimes freeze and had to be forced shut down. It happened 5-10 times already and it really started to get on my nerve. Generally you want to eliminate any possibility of this being a software issue before you start suspecting hardware. That said, as Steaky360 has said, running Memtest is a quick and easy way to check your RAM and so is worth doing.

The number one cause of freezes, crashes and BSODs are bad or wrong drivers, so with issues like yours ALWAYS suspect drivers until proven otherwise. Check that you have the latest version of all drivers, one possible exception is the NVIDIA driver. We often see that the latest driver causes issues where a back level driver doesn't. Since your problem is happening mostly when you use modelling software I would suspect the NVIDIA driver first. If you're at the latest version try using DDU to remove all existing graphics drivers and then download and install the last but one version, if that doesn't help try the version before that.

Next look to see whether any Windows updates were installed around the time these issues started. Back out those updates and see whether the problem disappears.

If you've installed any new software or software updates then uninstall/back out those changes and see whether the problem disappears.

If you've installed or modified any hardware, even externally attached hardware, then remove that and see whether the problem disappears.

In the Power Options change the System cooling Policy from Active to Passive. Active ramps up the fan before it throttles the CPU. Passive throttles the CPU before it ramps up the fan.

2. Sometimes the control centre, which controls the RGB lighting of my keyboard does not start at startup and the rgb will not have my preferred settings. This is not a serious issue and only happened 2-3 times but would be great if there is any fix for it.

We've had this on here before, I seem to remember the advice is to use only the driver provided by PCS, you'll find it in the downloads section on the main PCS page (after logging in).
