I've ordered...but I think I may have got over excited

Hi all,

I've recently ordered the following...

But after reading the forum I'm even more confused than I was after the research I did online before I order.

Looking for some genuine opinions/feedback on this build if possible.

Appreciate I may have jumped in at the deep end here but owning a PC like this has been a distant dream until recently and maybe the excitement got the better of me.

Thanks

Mostly... looks fairly balanced...
However.
Corsair coolers have pre applied high quality paste, you dont want the Arctic Thermal paste, it means scraping and cleaning the current paste job and reapplying with something thats no better...so waste of time...but the preapplied stuff comes with far less risk of a bad paste job, so you could just end up tripping yourself up.

Extra fans... not entirely sure why? You may need ONE (rear exhaust - i'd recommend a ML120) You have three, brand new design fans in that case (Corsairs new Airguide ones) and the cooler will end up with the radiator and its fans in the roof.
The case can take something like 10 fans...doesnt mean you should put 10 fans in

WiFi card...switch it to the AX200, its a newer card, comes with bluetooth as well and its excellent, better than some 4 or 5 times its price.

In terms of the GPU, what monitor are you attaching it to? What are your uses for it? (Gaming, streaming, video editing, photo editing, 3D modelling/CAD stuff...that kind of thing)

Storage... Can probably be improved... The Samsung 980's are currently leading in terms of speed, which would make great operating system drives, your board then has full sopport for a second Gen 4 M.2 as well, or you can put an earlier generation in (Even the 1TB PCS M.2... instead of the Samsung 870 SSD, actually surprisingly good and would make excellent games drive)

Can you use the post to forum function in your account to put the full spec up, and include the config link at the bottom?

Thank you.

Uses will be mainly gaming to be honest.

Monitor I currently have is only a 60hz LG but my plan is to get a LG27 Ultra Gear 2560x1440 144hz once the build starts. And judging by the forum, that could be a little while.

Its a pointless exercise putting a RTX3080 on a 1440p monitor unless its a super ultrawide monitor (effectively 3 screens in one), the 3070 is still more than enough, overkill even, for the monitor you mention.

This build comes in about £150 less than what you spec'd, and will perform better/have a better upgrade path simply due to the faster drives in use and the increased PSU wattage.
Ive left your RGB RAM and lighting strips in... all you would need is one extra fan for a rear exhaust, as said, i'd put a Corsair ML120 in.

If you arent going to actively use raytracing (so you want/need a Nvidia card) then I would look at the 6700XT, and save yourself another couple of hundred.

With either cards (RTX 3070/6700XT) you can put a ultrawide 1440p monitor (should you want ultrawide)
A standard 1440p (like the LG27 Ultra Gear) will be childsplay for it.

Well if you make the amendments ive put in bold/purple for you, and removed the Samsung 870 SSD - open your account page, go to orders, and then theres an amend button (doesnt charge for alterations until building starts, so you only pay price difference on parts)

You can get up over £300 back off what you have spent (if you took a 6700XT), but £150 off this...
If its burning a hole in your pocket, add it to the spend on the monitor and you can get yourself any 1440p 27" monitor you want, probably even a good ultrawide one should you want it/have space for it.

The spec i've put for you above will perform better than what you proposed, its a beast of a machine.

I've made the amendments, and again, I really appreciate you taking the time to give me the advice.

I kind of guessed I was going overkill but with limited knowledge mainly based around hours of YT videos pretending I had any idea what they were on about, I made notes and that's what I came out with.

I've gone with the 3070 mainly because I'm more familiar with the settings. Maybe I am being too optimistic but hopefully will bring my wait time down a bit too

Very nice build, think the only thing i would add would be a 2TB Barracuda HDD for general storage

Agree with the edits made by Sibun.
A 3070 is a much better fit than the 3080 for 1440p 144hz, and it will also mean a shorter waiting time for you as the 3080 is in much shorter supply than any other component.

Thank you for all your input.

I have amended my order based on the suggestions Sibun gave.

And like you say MrWilson, changing to a 3070 will hopefully reduce my wait time.

Is would expect there isn't an answer but is there a general idea of how long 3070 builds are taking?

And lastly, based on my build, would anyone be able to recommend a monitor to compliment it?

You mentioned the LG Ultragear monitors earlier in the thread; they are very solid monitors at around the £420-450 range. Similarly the Asus VG27AQ is a fantastic 27 inch display for around £450.
If you're looking to max the budget I would also throw the Acer monitor into the mix. It is a 1440p Ultrawide display, sitting at 34 inches in a 21:9 aspect ratio, so will be the same height as the 27 inch monitors mentioned above, but will be ~30% wider, allowing for a little extra immersion. Currently discounted to £550 on Amazon which is a great deal imo.
