Lafite II spec

Hi,
I'm looking for:

• an all day, every day fast work laptop
• in addition to normal office apps, it will run development databases with web front-ends
• usually have a load of browser tabs open on multiple desktops/workspaces
• no gaming
• occasional video editing
• sometimes attached to external large monitor and keyboard/mouse, other times as is at client sites
• don't need much storage
• OS is Ubuntu
• something that will last well & not need upgrading for a few years

So how does this spec look for that usage?

If storage is not an issue you could drop to the 500GB 7200rpm drive for the HDD, it will perform better than a standard 5400rpm. Upgrading the RAM to 16GB would be a good option as well.

Thanks - the 500GB 7200rpm should be fine.

Unfortunately 8GB RAM is the maximum on the Lafite - which is my main hesitation on this model. But I think its still the best match for my needs.

That is a pity. There are some new machines coming out but not sure what screen size they will be, may be worth contacting PCS to find out as it would be nice to have a similar laptop but with more RAM available.

Shame but the one you have specced still looks decent. There were touchpad issues with the initial Lafitte on Linux (https://www.pcspecialist.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?40379-Lafite-13-3-Touchpad) but not sure if that will be an issue. I run Ubuntu as well, on an Octane, but always use a mouse, have never got on with touchpads.
