Hey folks,

I've just unwrapped my brand new Vortex II plugged it in, watched the system starting up but the screen looks like it's not getting any power. It's completely dark. I might be missing something really simple, but can anyone please advise?

A bit of an anti climax.

Try FN + f9 and see if the display brightness is turned right down.

Do you see the Bios or anyting at all?
If not does the screen change shade of black when Laptop is turned on?
If your in a dark room can you see any light coming from around the egde of the LCD between the plastc surround (Backlights)?

If answer is no to all the above id defintly give PCS a call tommrowow, an internal cable could have come loose during transit or something else. Sadly things do happen sometimes no matter how well packaged.

Hi Ashley,

Nothing at all, No bios boot, nothing with FN + F9, and no backlight. Thems the breaks by the looks of things - in this case thanks to the courier..

Thanks for taking the time however to make the helpful suggestions.

Thats fine, one last thing, do you have an external monitor to hand, before phoning PCS tomorowow would be good to connect an external monitor, if that work's fine then atleast you know it's the screen/maybe loose cable and not the actually GPU/Motherboard, as it's something PCS tech support will probably ask you do to anyway.

Unfortunately not. We ditched our old desktops inc the monitors years ago. Annoyingly, when i call PCS tomorrow i'll be at work and so won't be able to do much by way of over the phone troubleshooting - I've resigned it more or less

to being sent back. It's not a big issue as such, just a tad frustrating as I had made plans to get my teeth into some gaming this coming weekend. So be it.

Hello Ashley,

I managed to smuggle my laptop into work, and talked to a professional tech member who bid me re-seat the RAM and HDD, unfortunately to no avail, the same issue over the dead screen wasn't resolved.

I literally risked life and limb to get to the depot after work, and managed to get the laptop off tonight on the last trailer southbound, so PC Specialist will have the laptop tomorrow whereupon i suspect a simple and speedy fix will take place.

I'll update you when i have more news.
