Hey guys.

thing shave changed from my side, not that most of you care ;)

However, it's looking good for a new laptop come end of December, beginning of January.

Are there any new Chassis likely available for this time frame?

Cheers
Matt

There may be a refresh close to that time but its far too early to have any real details.

There will be new laptops coming towards sometime in February all being well. The 18.4" Viper will also be disappearing forever, which is a shame as it's very popular, so anyone looking for this chassis should order ASAP!

Not 100% sure just yet - we're still finalising our new chassis range for Huron River. Unfortunately though most laptops are now going down the glossy route, especially on the larger screen sizes, because these are by far the most popular.

What's holding you off the 18.4" Viper?

What's holding you off the 18.4" Viper?

I'm locked in a vicious battle with myself over splashing out on the sweet spec I posted earlier with Buy Now Pay Later finance. That would definitely include the Viper chassis, and I think all the other specs would hold up well enough for the next 5 years (hell, current laptop was mid-range when I bought it 3 years ago, and it's only just starting to fade now).

But it's still £950, and there's always that nagging question: to wait or not to wait for new tech on the horizon?

It's a very common question which I normally answer as follows:

If you wait until the next technology release, such as the new Intel processors for example, by the time it's realeased there will be a new product on the horizon, and by the time that's released there will be something else coming through.

I do not wish to push you into buying a laptop now; you should purchase when you feel confident that the spec is suitable for you. However at present we don't have an 18.4" Matte laptop to replace the Viper II.

We have enough stock to last us until February, depending on how busy we are. After this date they are EOL (end-of-life).

You're absolutely right, of course. I don't normally worry too much about what's on the horizon, to be honest. I've damaged my resolve by coming on this forum and looking at all the shiny upcoming equipment. Thankfully, most of it isn't laptop-ready.

Question: do you have ANY matte screen chassis in your range? I haven't been able to see one apart from the Viper II.

Bracing myself for the £950 in January I think, when all the Xmas overtime is in.

Thanks for your advice!

Unfortunately all our chassis are glossy apart from the Viper II. As I mentioned above most laptops are now going down the glossy route, especially on the larger screen sizes, because these are by far the most popular. I can understand your frustration though, especially if you plan to use the laptop outside where you will have more chance of glare problems.

Hi!

I just found this site and I am sure the prices are very competetive but...the chassis...I am not sure...
I just didnt find any info about the screen (refresh rate, brightness etc...)
I really would like to decide to buy it or not but without enough information it is going to put me somewhwere else.
(Dell looks good but expensive)

The other thing. I would like to purchase the 18.4" Vortex Ultimate with nearly full specs but I have seen that red "thing" on the front cover
It is a "nonfigurative something" and I dont like it be honest. Is it possible to not to have it...???
Any answer is highly appreciated...

Is it the refresh rate for the Vortex Ultimate that you wish to know? I will check these details and get back to you shorty.

To confirm, the refresh rate is 60Hz on the Vortex Ultimate.

The design on the A Panel is fitted by default, and changes colour from red to blue to green to pink, turquoise, orange, etc., and lights up when the laptop is in use. The light can be switched off, but not removed.

Thank you for your answer!

Is there any chance to let me know some important details about the display please?
For example:
The brightness level (cd/m2)
The contrast of (xxx:1)
black value of x.x cd/m2
The illumination of xx%

I know for some people it is not important but I have got some very-very bad experience with different displays this is why I ask stupid questions.

Thanks a lot!:D

I have requested this information for you from the panel manufacturer. Unfortunately it's not something that we normally get asked and therefore we don't have it to hand. I will get back to you as soon as I have any further information. :)
