Laptop cooling pad?

Hi,

Should hopefully be getting my Octane II this Friday (next Monday-Tuesday) at the latest and I've been wondering if I should get a laptop cooling pad. I've looked online at other forums and people have said to see how the laptop copes with heat as it is as some laptops don't benefit from a cooling pad. Just wondering if anyone with a 15" Octane II has any issues with heat and if it's worth buying a cooling pad? If so which one is the best one to go for?

The octane and any high end laptop would benefit from a cooling pad. By lifting the back of the laptop it would help dissipate heat quicker

The heatsinks and fans are good on the Octane but I would not use mine for any length of time without a cooling pad. It is not worth me going into specifics about temperatures as I have the older version (i7 4790) and will be different, the Skylake should run a bit cooler I believe.

Compare the cost of a cooling pad (fan assisted of course) with the cost of a repair and the agony of being without it for a time.

A cooling pad will do no harm if it's not required.

A cooling pad might save you cash and pain if it is required.

So get a fan-assisted cooling pad!

Which cooling stand would people recommend? Also is one big single fan better or several smaller fans especially the ones that can be repositioned?

I have one with a single fan and another with two, there does not seem to be a difference in their cooling, might be an idea to read a few online reviews. I would go for one that is USB powered, not all are.

I have got a coolermaster U2 I think it is though the fans broke ages ago but I still use to to elevate laptop but might as well buy new one with working fans lol. Is there any ones that are good to use on your lap or are most just for desktop use?

I have a Zalman which has a flat base that would be OK on your lap, it is a few years old though so not sure if it it still made. There are quite a few on Amazon and the variety of pictures for many of them gives a good idea what they will be like.

Looks OK, I do not think there is much between any of them, the reviews on Amazon are probably the best way to check.
