Laptop for Linux

Does anybody have any experience running Linux on the Latifé Pro 15.6" ?

I have found a few threads discussing potential issues with Linux, but all seem to be for slightly older models of laptop. How does it run on the newest models? Are there any better laptops than the Latifé that work with less hassle?

You would have to provide far more detail before anyone could even begin to advise on which model to
select. Most of these laptops are Clevo designs. As a rule linux will run on most, if not all, but you may
have to make a few small configuration tweaks. If you have some experience with linux, it is not likely to be a major problem. It may be a good idea to find the matching Clevo model and use that name in a search for linux quirks.

I was just interested to see if anybody here had any experience on that particular model.

I know it is based on the Clevo NS50MU which does have support for Linux and there are plenty of other resellers out there who offer it with Linux. But I noticed that there are often issues with the PC Specialist supplied BIOS not playing nicely - see this thread https://www.pcspecialist.co.uk/forums/threads/unable-to-install-linux.66956

Although all the issues I could find seem to be for older models. I was curious to see if they still existed on this newest model.

The BIOS lock on that model also effected some W10 users and I know PCS were looking at it but the only people who could say for sure would be them.

If you phone there are long wait times because of current crisis but best time is around 09:00 when they open.

Thank you Stephen. I notice you were also present in that thread I linked. I did email PCS, not an urgent request and hopefully they will be able to get back to me.

I am just concerned as I want clarification whether the same problem effects this newer model. It would suck if I wasn't able to adjust the BIOS settings, or if I had to buy a slower non-nvme drive (does it even support such drives, I notice on the website all the options are NVME)

It is a real oddity that model, I have put various distros on eight PCS machines machines and never had a complete failure.

Some have been a bit tricky but that was a couple of years back, most of the time it all goes smoothly now.
