Hiya,

Is it possible to connect an Oculus Quest via USB C for use by my kids and at the same time use the laptop for digital audio work connecting to a monitor for 3440 x 1440 via displayport.

Thanks

Mark.

It certainly wouldn’t be recommended.

Ableton uses a fair bit of CPU and a LOT of RAM.

VR similarly uses quite a lot of RAM and a fair bit of CPU.

The two concurrently I don’t think would be a particularly happy experience for either use.

This is complete guesswork btw, but ableton I would expect would face jitters and freezes which in turn would likely reduce the FPS for VR.

We’ll need someone else’s input on this though, like I say I’m completely guessing here.

How about if I specced 6/8 core and a lot of RAM?
You'd need a minimum of a 12 core I'd say, and like minimum of 32Gb RAM, so you'd be looking around £2.5k for the build

But it's not so much the resources, it's running them both in parrallel. It's the way windows handles the resources. I don't think it would cope very well.

I accidentally left a Lego Batman game running in the background while playing VR, it wasn't pretty.

I've also recorded my gameplay using OBS while in VR and noticed the impact. These things can take a lot of juice.

There are other resources to consider other than the CPU and RAM. Having them loaded on different drives would help.
