Laptop Spec Check - Desktop Replacement

Hi All,

I'm looking for a laptop to replace a family desktop. A 17" screen is preferable and the laptop will be used for the general MS Office applications, light photoshop use and a design/drawing application for woodworking projects. Gaming is a possibility! I also have a lot of photos that I'd like to store on the laptop and plan to take and store more in the future!

I don't want to ovespec the laptop but I'm looking for a really good machine that'll last for many many years.

If gaming is a possibility, don't buy the Cosmos. The GTX 1050 is very old and weak as a gaming GPU. Unlike a desktop you can't upgrade the GPU in a laptop so the sooner your GPU doesn't handle whatever the family wants it to handle, the sooner the pressure to buy a new laptop. And you're looking for it to last many years. The GTX 1650 in the Optimus is far from powerful, but at least has some kind of headroom to play future games not just on the lowest settings.

Why a laptop? And could it be used with an external monitor?

And why the 2 SSDs? Rather than a large SSD and a small SSD it often makes more sense to just buy a single SSD.. and keep the storage slots open for other large drives in the future should more storage be required.

The pricing on the H10 SSDs is awful. They're not remotely worth it. if you were going to spend that much on an SSD, just spend a little more and get a really fast one like the 970 Evo instead of a slow SSD that flaunts optane as a mechanism to try to lift its performance (or magic buzzword to try to get people to buy it), but just makes it so expensive it is poor versus similarly priced alternatives.

For light photoshop and other uses you don't need a particularly fast SSD or multiple SSDs.
