Laptop turns off when charger connected.

This is a follow up to my previous thread about my charging problems, which you'll find here: https://www.pcspecialist.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?37166-Power-adaptor-loose

For anyone who doesn't want to visit different threads, I'll explain my charging problems from the start.

I've had charging problems with my laptop for a while. I'd have to wriggle the connector around in the port for it to charge. It gradually got worse, with me having to move it around in the port more and more before it'd start charging. Over the past couple of days, my laptop has suddenly been turning off while the charger is connected, and I've noticed a smell coming from the laptop while the charger is connected and before it turns off. I'm currently using it without the charger connected, and it's working fine. I've ran HWMonitor on my laptop (when I Google searched my problem, the only information I could find was to use HWMonitor and check for overheating), and there's been no signs of it overheating when the charger is connected.

So, does anybody have any idea what the exact problem may be? I'm guessing it's something to do with either the port or the charger, but I'm not sure.

From what you say,the issue is being caused by a faulty connection on the laptop power socket or the jack plug of the charger.
This probably means replacing the socket or the jack plug,I would recommend you either give PCS a call for advice or take it to a reputable computer repair shop (assuming your warranty has run out) if not confident replacing it yourself.

Thanks for responding vanthus. I've watched Youtube videos on socket replacement, and I don't dare dismantle my laptop that much, in fear of never being able to put it back together! :p There is a computer repair shop down the road from my house, but I think I'd trust PCS over the repair shop. I'll give them a ring tomorrow.
