large file onto dvd

i copied a dvd to my pc, the file it gave me is 7GB, the blank dvd-r that i have is 4.7 GB,
how do i get 7GB video file onto a 4.7GB blank dvd ????

You’d have to either get some dual sided dvd’s Which then allow up to 9.4Gb or convert the DVD image into something compressed with handbrake or another conversion tool.

You sure it was a dvd and not Blu-ray?

A quart won't fit into a pint pot. You might be able to find some backup software that can safely split a 7GB file between two 4.7GB DVDs....

...or buy a dual layer blank disc (8.5GB) if your burner supports it.
