LED Monitor Problem

I recently recieved my new PC and I have a problem. I'm using a HKC LED Monitor but there's nothing showing up on it. I'm using a DVI-VGA adapter to plug into the graphic card port but there's no picture on the monitor, it worked fine with my old PC. I also read that I shouldn't turn off the PC until I've finished the startup process but I turned it on and can't get to that part so I'm pretty worried about turning my PC back off.. What should I do?

Have you got it plugged into the graphics card, not the motherboard? Have you made sure the input on the monitor is set correctly?

You'll be fine to turn off the PC, the update process won't start until you're signed in to your user profile which you haven't been able to do yet.

Yes I have it plugged into the graphics card. My graphics card only has a DVI port which is why I'm using a VGA-DVI adapter. Does DVI-I and DVI have an actual difference? Perhaps that could be the problem but I'm not sure.

Am I right in thinking you have a gtx 960? If so then you've got it plugged into the motherboard as the graphics card has DVI, HDMI and display port.

I'm not really sure where I'm supposed to plug in my VGA monitor.

I already tried using the VGA port but it doesn't seem to work.

I'm not really sure where I'm supposed to plug in my VGA monitor.

So the two slots taken up under the big fan are both the graphics card. You want any of those, any of the outputs which are DVI-D, HDMI, display port and then DVI-I on the lower slot. You don't want to convert from VGA to DVI (unless the monitor only has VGA which I'd be surprised at if it's an LED), as it's converting analogue to digital. DVI to DVI or HDMI to HDMI would be much better.

Yeah, I tried the top one, that was the only one that the DVI-VGI adapter fitted into, but still no picture on my monitor. My monitor only has one cable and that's a VGA one.. I suppose I'll just have to buy a new monitor then?

As SpyderTracks say's, you don't need the DVD-I to VGA adaptor on your cable anymore, take it off and the cable will connect directly to the graphics card.

EDIT

oops, posted as you were posting.

Hmmm, it should still work. Can you try with another monitor?

I have something to share - I'm a complete idiot! I forgot to plug the power cable into the monitor! It works fine now!
