you need more than 120gb if you planning to store games and other programmes/files/media.
No need for a 4gb gtx 770 for gaming on a tv. The gtx 770 2gb would be more than enough, you can also downgrade to an i5-4690.

He does have an extra 1TB hdd in there but I would recommend the WD Caviar Black as is often recommended here for it's speed.

Seeing as Watch Dogs requires 3GB for ultra settings and more games are likely to move towards requiring more video ram maybe the 4gb card would be best. Either that or a 3gb GTX 780 :)

Also Watch Dogs top spec recommends an i7 cpu and seeing as consoles are closer in spec to pc's now games are likely to get better and more will take advantage of them going forward. To help make the pc last a little longer maybe the i7, if it's within his price range, isn't a bad option. The i7 4770k is a popular cpu.

I also currently play DayZ and Arma 3 along with Arma 2, Battlefield 4 and Watch Dogs. My current setup is i5 3570k @4.5GHz, 16GB ddr 3 1600, 3gb GTX 780, 256GB SSD, 1TB WD Black and I can almost but not quite max them all out. I wouldn't go for anything less than that spec if you want to run high/ultra. That's current games, not future. I know there will be plenty that will run on that setup but there will also be more that require higher.

My spec in build (thanks PCS) is i7 4930k @ 4.4ghz (gaming and vdeo/audio editing), 32gb ddr3 2133 (overclocking, editing and possible ram disk), 3gb GTX 780Ti (yummy gaming plus helps with editing - with another 780Ti at a later date) and plenty of ssd/hdd space. Now that should see me a few years on my nice new 27" 2560x1440 monitor :) No decent 4K monitors at the moment and, for some games, even this system would struggle at that res.

if you are unable to max the games you mentioned I highly doubt is to do with the i5 but poorly optimised games. By the time games require an i7 and hyperthreading as standard you are looking at a whole new spec because the gpu may have been outdated by then.
On an budget i5 + gtx 770, no budget then go with the i7-4790 with the gtx 780

They are closer than they were to the spec of PC most have!

There's the key point. Yes they're equal to an off the shelf jobby from PC World, but they're **** weak compared to even a half decent gaming rig. Even my A10-5800k with an HD7850-DC2T batters 'next gen' consoles.

So we will get better quality games which is already seen with Watch Dogs.

All I've read about Watch Dogs has been negative. Hardly anybody has the game running smooth so... it's just another 'next gen' console port. A bad one.

Apparently it isn't just a console port but the devs worked close with Nvidia to optimise it for their cards and using their effects. It runs fine for me at 2560x1440 with everything except filters set to ultra and motion blur turned off because I don't like it :)

I have read that it runs very badly for AMD graphics card owners but that is also due to them not having as long to work on the drivers. Hopefully it will get better soon.

I do agree. There is no point getting an i5 and 2GB VRAM atm. Look at the new nvidia 800s... The top end ones have as much as 8GB surely that isn't just for show. Especially if you CAN get them.

I am a bit esceptical . I think is just for show , could explain why there are no many reviews comparing the same gpu with different VRAM . The review of the gtx 780 6gb shows how little difference it makes compare to 3gb

Yet there are scores, probably hundreds of people running nVidia cards who can't get it to run properly, some even right here on this forum. Some are running SLi 780tis yet find there machines freezing, crashing, rebooting and locking up. Watch dogs certainly isn't optimised for PC, and even if it was it wouldn't be testament that consoles are now allowing PCs to run better games because they're not.

-the new consoles can't keep 60fps at 1080p, there's a few videos on youtube of people self-building computers for the same price, and running the same games at highest settings at 1080p and getting over 30fps.
-the 800m series graphics cards use about 1gb VRAM. nVidia just wanted to make them look better.

Seriously people! One person has an opinion and everyone else is right? Also the guy asked to be "future proofed somewhat"

It was a comment that, compared to the likes of the worse ports we were getting with the PS3 and Xbox 360, games should get better now because consoles are closer in spec to most peoples PC's. You can't judge current gen ports/games against one that doesn't appear to be optimised for some people - It runs fine for me at 2560x1440 with everything settings Ultra but around mid filters. I get some stuttering in high speed chases but nothing like the 780Ti's you mentioned and on foot is smooth.

Consoles will always require lower spec to create better games because devs are working with 1 set of hardware not 1000's of different configurations or cpu, graphics, sound etc

Wait until the consoles have been out a year or so and devs get used to what they can do and things WILL get better and at that point PC requirements will also go up. Do those buying now then have to spend a load upgrading or do they spend just a little more now to make sure they are ready? Even for pc gaming - do you accommodate current games only or factor in games will get better if you want your pc to last that little longer? If the budget allows and you want quality graphics... :) We need to take into consideration budget first then the quality of gaming people want.

In my opinion current gen consoles have gone wrong because they went with AMD ;) lol

Btw cheers for your opinions guys. All useful and interesting.

95% of people have problems with watch dogs. I can run it on high settings but do get stuttering in high speed chases, especially at night when the lights are on.

The i5 will be fine and so is the 2gb 770, watch dogs is just poorly optimised, both for PC and consoles. Don't get me wrong, I love the game and I've already completed the campaign but not many rigs can run it well at the moment, which is a shame.
