Looking for feedback on new gaming / VR rig

It's been quite a while since I've needed to upgrade, but my kid's rig just ain't cutting in any more! I've had a bit of a tweak on specs based on some builds on the forum and looking for some feedback on the spec below. To help put the rig in to context:

Budget: £1,500 tops
Uses: Primarily gaming and VR, some streaming, some video editing
Monitor: ASUS VG248QE 24", 1080p, 144 Hz
VR: Oculus Rift S
Lifecylce: Aiming for something that will last 3 years without need for updates, but will likely upgrade GPU and memory after that
Other: Hardwired gigabit link to home network - no wireless required

and on to the spec... any and all feedback appreciated!

My personal build is in my sig (and is quite old now), but the kid's is way lower spec'ed than that and is struggling these days on almost anything!

GPU: GTX 750Ti
Memory: 16GB (2x 8GB) DDR3 1600MHz DIMM
No SDD!

VR headset is an Oculus Rift S. My rig copes well, but want a second rig that will drive a good experience so we can use the headset more while I continue with work.

Build looks very suitable. The only area that I'd slightly balk at would be the cooler, I'd push for the 240 of the same model, the 120 isn't such a great one. I'd also up the PSU to the 750W TXm PSU (or RMx is budget affords), as that will allow for any gpu upgrade in the future.

I realise you've currently got a 1080p screen paired with it, just to add that it will happily take a 1440p 144Hz screen as a very worthwhile upgrade when you come to it, would make a big difference. Currently the 1080p screen is going to hugely bottleneck the card (but obviously you need it for VR).

Thanks for the thoughts on these -- I'll have a little play on the config and see what I can do (dropping the HDD to 2TB may help).

Checked finances and decided to get a worthwhile monitor to pair with the system... Ordered a ASUS TUF VG27AQ (27", 1440p, IPS panel, 144Hz, G-Sync, 1ms)... should do the job!

Yeah, they're really good monitors, they tend to be only a little more expensive but are generally MUCH higher quality.

3070 is more powerful than the 2080ti, so it’s a substantial increase.

But you’d need to factor in a much better monitor to make use of it.

3070 is more powerful than the 2080ti, so it’s a substantial increase. But you’d need to factor in a much better monitor to make use of it.

I'm happy with the 1440p / 144Hz display for this as we'll still be using it for VR and the 3070 will drive a great experience there. As the 3070 is only slight more cash that the 2070S, it is a no-brainer for future proofing the build.

Yeah, an extra couple of weeks will not make a difference...

I've submitted the cancellation and we reorder in a could of weeks...

Well, I cancelled, waited a bit for the 3070 release... then impatience hit and decided I couldn't wait another 4 weeks so I've gone for a RTX 3080 paired with a Ryzen 9 3900 instead (with cooler and PSU upgrades as suggested above).

Now I just have to wait so more!
