Low bench mark score...

Hey,

I seem (correct me if I am wrong) to be getting low benchmarking results for what I know is a good machine:

Intel® Core™i7 Quad Core Mobile Processor i7-3630QM (2.40GHz) 6MB
8GB SAMSUNG 1600MHz SODIMM DDR3 MEMORY (2 x 4GB)
NVIDIA® GeForce® GTX 660M - 2.0GB DDR5 Video RAM - DirectX® 11
750GB WD SCORPIO BLACK WD7500BPKT, SATA 3 Gb/s, 16MB

...and got 872 on Novabench:

I have found what I believe is a very similar spec machine which is rated at 1309:

Intel Core i7-3630QM 2.40GHz running at 2401 MHz

NVIDIA GeForce GTX 660M GPU

Any ideas??!

In a quick chart for easier comparison:

Component / You / other machine
RAM / 11124MB/s / 13620MB/s
CPU / 596 / 736
Graphics / 47 / 301
HDD / 132MB/s / 175MB/s

First thing, were you running Windows 7 or 8, and was the other system running the same? Does the benchmark you are using fully support Windows 8, if that's what you are on?

The RAM is easily not a problem - I would guess where you have 1600MHz, they have 1866MHz. Doesn't make a difference anyway.

The difference in CPU score can be a few things. First, I'd look at the Windows Power Options (search it in the Start menu) and make sure Performance is selected, rather than Balanced or Power Saver.

Graphics I'm not sure about. I would reckon that the integrated GPU was used in your case, where the discrete GPU was used in the other benchmark.

For the HDD test, I would say that the other benchmark's result is anomalous as I'm fairly certain HDDs haven't reached 175MB/s write speed yet.
