Man of Steele

Loved it. I liked how he still felt vulnerable without having to resort to the usual, tiresome, Kryptonite debacle!

EDIT: oh and I'd rather have a film that was too long than not long enough! Got to get yer pennies worth ;)

I enjoyed it but got a bit lost/bored during the fight scene. I did like the actual story though.

I seem to be in the minority but I thought the pacing was off, story jumped around too much and progressed bit too quickly for an origin story, and the character development was pretty poor.

Still better than the 06 film but all in all I was disappointed. Maybe they should stop doing origin stories each time and just jump right in.

I kinda feel some people were expecting it to live up to the Batman trilogy - and there was no way that was gonna happen. Although, maybe a trilogy would have been a good way to go about it?

This is a good point. Batman Begins wasn't especially good on its own, but now that the Gritty Reboot Trilogy has finished it seems to hold up much better in the context of all three installments.

I loved Batman Begins, think it's THE film to show how a gritty reboot with a darker tone should be done. But one of my mates said he found it "boring" and most of them really enjoyed Superman.

To be fair Batman translates better on screen anyway I think, and it's much easier to create that feel with a normal man in a cape. Can't really do that with Superman to the same extent, maybe that's why there's never been a good game (and in my opinion film).

I'll be seeing Man of Steel this weekend, btw - haven't seen it yet :p

I also loved Batman Begins but it got a bad rep after Dark Knight simply because Dark Knight was basically a 10/10 film. It's a bit slow and plodding in comparison, I guess - plus they're relatively long films - so I can see how your mate felt.

To be honest, I wasn't really all that big on Batman, and I didn't realise at first that Begins and Dark Knight were together. I didn't really rate Begins that much which I think is probably why.

Dark Knight was, as you say, 10/10. I think they tried to cram a Batman trilogy into one Superman film. It had glimpses of 'Dark Knight' but too much 'Begins' and 'Rises' in there....

That's been the main complaints so far from reviewers (I've been reading a lot since I'm eager to see it :p), that it's more a Clark Kent film rather than a Superman one.

Honestly, the main reason I want to see it is that the action scenes look amazing from the trailer. Best CGI I've ever seen, those short 1-2 second chunks :p

Yeah it was a lot of Clark Kent - but it's more about how he BECOMES Clark Kent has opposed to how he becomes Superman. A little odd but a refreshing approach to take I suppose!

The effects are pretty spectacular. :)
Nice. It really makes me feel awed when I try to think about what kind of effects/CGI that films will have in 2020, or 2030. I suppose by then the computing and software will basically just be limited by whatever you can imagine.
