Med Gamin Laptop - Optimus VI 15.6 Build Advice

Hi All,

I'm looking to purchase a new laptop and would appreciate some suggestions on my proposed build. Basically the main use for the build will be gaming, ideally on high-res and looking to have something that is powerful enough to play most chunky games (Witcher 3, Total War:Atilla, GTA V etc) but trying to keep below a budget of ~£1000.

Pretty sold on the Optimus chassis, I am mainly seeking advice on what components I might be able to save ££'s on without a massive dip in performance. Would appreciate any comments!!
I've built a couple of PC's in my time but this is my first laptop build so I'm a bit of rookie.

You could drop to 8gb memory without affecting performance, and it's an easy upgrade to do yourself in the future should you find you do need more.

For your budget, I'd also drop the SSD and with the savings push for the GTX970m and Silver Warranty.

Other than that, looks good.

Thanks for your feedback guys, I appreciate it.
I've been trawling the forums for information on the Proteus Chassis and I'm just unsure on the quality of the non-IPS display, which was why I was leaning towards the Optimus. Any thoughts on this?
By the look of the pictures, and comments on the forum, the Proteus is a relatively cheap chassis which is obviously why you can get great specs for a really nice price. Hoping the Optimus is slightly higher quality in regards to cooling, screen and trackpad.

I think I will cut the RAM down to 8gb, as you said Spyder it is a relatively easy install and can put off the expenditure as well.

My other questions is in regards to the CPU. Unfortunately the i7-4720HQ (2.60GHz, 3.5GHz Turbo) is now out of stock on PC Specialist, with next availability available end of September. Being as impatient as I am (haven't gamed in 8 months since moving to the UK), I just don't know if I can wait. So I am thinking of upgrading to the i7-4870HQ (3.7GHz). My only question is, is this a waste of money? As the CPU upgrade will have minimal performance improvements (and max cost) while limited by the 960M which is the best GPU the Optimus chassis can fit.
