I believe the graphics card in my new pc will have vga, dvi and hdmi ports. Ive just purchased a monitor which came today, and it is capable of all 3 types too.
My question is, which out of the 3 would be best to use?
Question on the side here - do some graphics cards come with their own HDMI cables, and so I won't have to buy a separate one? And also, is it possible for me to use my HDMI to connect to my monitor and still be connected to my sound system?
It may depend on the graphics card which you buy.
This is something you will have to make an enquiry about, to PCS, or wait for a member of the PCS staff on here to reply.
The sound will still come out of your sound system even when you are using HDMI. It is merely an option.
You can choose which output to use through the control panel of you onboard sound or your sound card.
I dont think the 2GB 6950 comes supplied with a hdmi cable besides a VGA adaptor. The sound system should normally connect through the onboard sound ports.
LoL! wasnt having a competition or anything, im just helping as im burning time for my RMA to get back to me which would be like another week perhaps but i hope its by next week.
an rep for you too shaiqb for letting me help answer your Qs with Nemesis
Just to add my little bit i don't know of any graphics cards that come with a hdmi cable, i think cables only come with monitors at least the ones i have bought have always come with a vga cable and a dvi cable.
Same for me as ive never had any graphics card/monitor or desktop that even comes with a hdmi cable. Ive only ever got was the traditionl standard dvi or vga cable but are usually provided when bought or bundled as a pc spec or a monitor alone like from pcworld or currys etc etc.
I dont think hdmi cables wont be bundled with graphic cards anytime soon since quality made hdmi cables like sony are quite pricey which range from £8-£30+ and that is "money" to them lol
Ive seen them been bundled with cameras or recorders before but apart from that, im not sure.
Ex sony employee here. Just so you know the prices they charge for HDMI cables are stupid. It offers no performence increase over any other type. At all. I tend to get mine from amazon. The cable with shipping usually comes to about £2 from there for a 1m one.
