Mouse problem on new PC

I received my new PC from here last month and am extremely happy with it except for the a problem with the mouse, {Microsoft 4000). It works okay with my old PC but only works in fits and starts with the new one. Lags behind on traversing both up and down/across the screen. The roll is also juddery.

The transceiver is in clear line of sight, only a few feet away. I have checked the drivers and they are all up to date , the software was download from Microsoft today but problem the same. It operates on 2.4GHz, is it worth changing it to 5GHz and if so can I do it? Keyboard is okay, (Microsoft 5000).

I know it is not a new keyboard/mouse combo but the problem only lays with the new PC.

Any clues?

Back to basics, try some new batteries in the mouse.

Also make sure the adapter is set to not go to sleep, this should work for a wireless adapter also:

There's no 5GHz band on the receiver.

In addition to the above, move mobile phones, cordless phones, any Bluetooth devices, WiFi connected devices, etc. well away from the mouse transceiver. For testing purposes remove them completely from the PC area or power them down fully. The 2.4GHz band is crowded and interference is not uncommon. Your mouse lags could easily be due to radio frequency interference.
