Multi-Use Desktop PC...

Hi all, I'm not gonna lie. My knowledge of pc parts is a bit crappy.

I know bits and pieces but not alot. Basically I'm saving up to order a desktop. I have about £1000 saved up but should have around £2000 in the next month so that's my budget. Will be used for gaming a bit, mainly Minecraft which I always give a few hours a day. I'd like to play it on the highest settings possible. I also do a bit of Photoshop work, and I've got into video editing recently aswell (I hope to take this alot futher in the coming year or two). Will also be used for general everyday pc stuff aswell (internet etc).

I want the best system I can get for £2000. Even if that means getting something I have no need for, thats fine because I will find a way to use it in the future.

Thanks in advance!

Cheers for the reply. I forgot to mention I'll need a monitor, keyboard and mouse aswell. What would you recommend monitor wise?

We get the chance to talk about RAID 0 again :)

I'm not sure RAID 0 would be worthwhile in this setup where you have the SSD for speed and the HDDs for bulk storage. The HDDs will be pretty fast anyway, but even with RAID 0 they will still seem slow by comparison with the SSD. And there is the greater risk of failure. So I'd keep the HDDs apart - or, rather, I'd just go for a single 2 TB drive.

Regarding a keyboard, if you are in the market for the best stuff you might want to check out mechanical keyboards. I'm not sure PCS sell them though.

So it's a risk essentially? Worth taking it off that spec?

With regards to keyboard & mouse. Ill probably leave them till the month after, and ill just use cheap Tesco ones until then. £2000 was my limit. Leaves me with around 100 or so but I'd rather wait a month and get Razr ones or something equally as good.

I would take off the RAID because although it will effectively make the hard disk access twice as fast it does so at the cost of greater risk and (this is the key point for me), the hard disks will feel not feel any faster in comparison with the SSD, which will be in a different league of speed. It's like comparing a bicycle and moped next to a Ferrari. (Just my opinion)

If you do take off the RAID then I would switch the 2 1 TB hard disks to a single 2 TB one (the point of having two separate drives is just to allow the RAID - that's how it works).

Good idea to spend some time looking at keyboard and mouse options and also saving some of your budget for them. Those are the part of the system you actually interact with, after all.

So it's a risk essentially? If the worst we're to happen and it failed, new ones would be needed?

If information was lost from one disk then it would be lost from both, but if one disk was damaged then you just replace that one disk.

Yea, it's a risk that's only worth it if you backup regularly. With disks that size though, I'm not sure what you would be backing up to.
