Are you using a cooling pad? i would certainly add the Arctic Thermal paste, if it is a budget issue, the Standard Kingston RAM are not much different to the Hyper X, doubt you would notice, and changing that would save you the price of the paste.

Kept the hyper-X as I would maybe consider adding another 8gb hyper-x if this laptop performs well enough and I ever have enough time to play games seriously!

Amended the order to add the artic paste, appreciate your input thanks - is over heating likely to be an issue with this spec?

I don't think overheating will be a problem but any laptop, especially when gaming or in intensive use, is going to heat more than a desktop. I just think the paste is a worthwhile precaution.

Is it worth partitioning the SSD for the OS, will 100GB suffice and is it likely to improve performance in anyway?

Unless you are going to dual-boot I would not bother with partioning.
