My First Gaming PC

Hi,

Thinking about ordering this next week:

Case
COOLERMASTER CM STORM SNIPER - NEXT GEN GAMING CASE
Processor (CPU)
Intel® Core™i7-2600 Quad Core (3.40GHz, 8MB Cache) + HD Graphics
Motherboard
ASUS® P8Z68-V LX: USB 3.0, SATA 6GBs, ATI®CrossFireX
Memory (RAM)
8GB SAMSUNG DDR3 DUAL-DDR3 1333MHz (2 X 4GB)
Graphics Card
1.5GB NVIDIA GEFORCE GTX 580 - 2 DVI, HDMI, DP - 3D Vision Ready
Hard Disk
1TB SERIAL ATA 3-Gb/s HARD DRIVE WITH 16MB CACHE (7,200rpm)
DVD Drive
24x DUAL LAYER DVD WRITER ±R/±RW/RAM
Power Supply
CORSAIR 650W ENTHUSIAST SERIES™ TX650 V2-80 PLUS® BRONZE (£72)
Processor Cooling
TITAN FENRIR EVO EXTREME HEATPIPE CPU COOLER (£39)
Monitor
IIYAMA E2473HDS 24" LED WIDESCREEN, 2 x HDMI/DVI-D HD 1920x1080 (£169)

Anything not on the list is standard.

Does that all hang together? Does anything stand out and being overkill or under nourished?

The goal is to get a system for under £1500 that I won't need to touch for a few years (my current laptop has lasted for five years) and will serve as a quality base going forward for any required upgrades. Does that fit the bill.

Also two final questions.
Will I need any extra cables or do everything needed come with? (I've got a keyboard I like and will be getting a mouse elsewhere)
Does everything I might need for a complete wipe and re-install come with?

A hatchet job would be appreciated as my budget has crept right up on this already and would need real justification for spending any more.

Thanks in advance :)

looks good but i would say that a sli compatible motherboard would allow you to add a 2nd gfx card at a later date with a upgraded psu which would increase performace without being too costly if you decided to in say 2 years if the motherboard is to much then there is no real harm dropping the i7 down to a i5 as by the looks of the gpu you have selected its for gaming, and the i5 is still ample.

Thanks for the reply Bowden, So bump the motherboard up to the:

ASUS® P8Z68-V: USB 3.0, SATA 6GBs, NVIDIA®SLI™, ATI®CrossFireX

and then I'll be SLI ready? It's something I wanted to be but didn't spot that.

Is the 650W power supply going to be enough? I saw on another thread a recommendation to go to a 1050W for someone to be SLI ready but don't mind leaving that until I upgrade.

Also any idea on cables and software/driver disks?

Yeah if your going to sli 2 GTX580's i'd go for 1050W if you can afford the corsair now you will actually be saving yourself the money in the longrun and i would definately go for a caviar black HDD as that will give you a bit more of a speed boost over the standard drive you have selected.

to sli the 580`s as its been said you would need a 1050w, as far as cables and drivers everything that comes with the pc parts wise will be sent ie spare sata cables sli bridges etc.

And if you are looking to save money on this spec without sacrificing performance you could;

- drop the case to the CM HAF 922 or similar
- reduce PSU to 650W
- drop to the tripple copper CPU cooler
- go for the 22" Iiyama
- and even drop to 4GB of RAM (but I would stick with 8GB)

and I would keep that motherboard also.
