The 7950 is equal in performance to the GTX 580, while using less power and being slightly cheaper. I would go for it unless you really want to go for an Nvidia card.

Only other point is on the CPU cooling, do you need watercooling? Only if you plan to overclock would i advise keeping it.

Forgot to mention - this is a computer already brought - currently sat in my living room - wilst i'm at work - BOO!
I'm one of those "i only like certain brands" kind of person.
So i'm all about amd and nvidia.

I have an intel laptop, but that is because AMD proccessors on laptops highend wise can be messy. i know they got recalled awhile ago due to overheating issues.
Saying that, my intel laptop overhears alot too! (brought from pcs).

As for watercooling - i wanted something future proof - i have watercooling in my current computer and found it works better than stock fans.

Turns out i can only use 8GB, lame.
Will be doing a proper review shortly - right now am just installing updates/installing games.
Heads up though - not looking to be a good review.

I put the 4 sticks of 4GB in - and it said "8GB usable" - i checked manual and that only says 8gb useable. am i missing something here?!
My ram is Corsair Vengeance ddr3 1866mhz

Which manual?
For your motherboard?
If so I'm surprised, cos looking here it seems to suggest that you can use 16GB, it says "4 x DIMM, Max. 16GB, DDR3 2000(O.C.)/1866(O.C.)/1800(O.C.)/1600(O.C.)/1333/1066 Hz ECC, Non-ECC, Un-buffered Memory"

It's possible that you need to fiddle with something cos its 1866MHz, but I just don't know.

As stated previously i had to change the ram to 8GB instead of my intended 16GB - is this still correct? the manual says 8GB for my ram: 4GB sticks Corsair Vengeance DDR3 1866MHZ

The motherboard you have just posted can use upto 32GB, so I don't know where you're getting it can only use 8gb from, what manual are you looking at?

PS. Since it's pretty much the same thread, I merged your posts.

The manual the computer came with - wouldn't surprise me if PCS idiots gave me the wrong manual - i checked the "columns" of suport vendor Ram modules - it had mine and said 8GB (2 x 4)) - i could put the extra 8 in tonight and see - but i had 12gb and it says 8gb usable, maybe it needed to be 4 sticks, not 3 ((1 stopped working)) and didn't work with 3?

So your saying you tried it with 3 sticks first? Thats hardly the fault of anyone who works for PCS now is it?

As it runs in dual channel you should really be adding them in pairs. Are you even sure all your RAM works?

Their is no reason at all that motherboard wont run 16GB of RAM

Here is your problem....

A direct quote from the manual for your RAM

"4 DIMM: Supports 4 modules inserted into both the blue and black slots as two pairs of Dual-channel memory configuration"

Well, you might like to check what it says on the front of the manual, and if it is the wrong one, let PCS know and they will send you the correct one, after all they are just human, so errors are sometimes made :)

Having just had a look at the specs/manual on the asus website, its not entirely clear what those tables actually cover anyways, that mobo can supposedly support 32GB of RAM, yet I see no options for that in that list it gives (I also don't see many for 16GB), so I wouldn't take that list as every single option out there for that mobo.

No, i had 4 sticks in, but 1 wasn't seated properly ((the Graphics card was too big)) - never did i mention it was PCS's fault.

Yes, all ram works (i put the 2 spare one's back into my old pc and they both work))

As for Rakk, that's a fair point - like i said, i will retry tonight - i was just going on what i read in the manual on the Qualified Venue list.

If you look at the manual online, it's not about a specific maximum RAM capacity, it's about how you put the RAM in the slots i think.

If you look at the corsair 1866 table, the dot in the 4 socket support column indacates it's possible. The board can support 1 - 2 OR 4 sticks, but apparently not 3 (of anything). Hence the problem here, as i think the poster tried 3 sticks.

EDit to reply to you last post.

Ok so one wasnt seated properly, that would still give you the reason why it happened.

"wouldn't surprise me if PCS idiots gave me the wrong manual" was what i was referring to with it being a fault at PCS, probably should have made that clearer.

The Qualified Vendor's List is a list of Ram which has been tested by the motherboard manufacturer, not a list of all possible configurations.
If you install the 4 ram modules I'm pretty sure, though not certain,16GB
will be recognised.

Okay i will back off Mantadog, i apologise, i am only checking to see if i read the manual wrong, etc, and it shows i have, so no problems here.

Well when i write my review, you will see why i think PCS are idiots. the customer support was shockingly bad. but as for the actual computer - so far i'm happy.
