If I can ask a question as I'm weighing up a possible purchase myself, what's the running volume of the fans like, both at rest and under load?

Not checked on how to do that illusionary, however fans are very quiet even when running disc copying using Roxio. Previous laptop I edited videos, photos & ran audio/video converters which taxed the one fan to the max but not had chance to do that with this new one but with two fans I suspect it will manage it.
I do hear the HDD whirr when Norton Security is running a full computer scan though.

Thanks, I appreciate the insight! I wasn't really thinking of anything 'scientific', just a general impression. I assume not completely silent when idle, though?

You have to be really listening to hear the fans, they run very smoothly & you can access them easily to clean them out which is good for me as my old laptop's fan was inaccessible.
