Just going through the 64 bit Windows 7 install but looks good so far. I'm happy that I eventually got the matte screen, nice to sit facing a big window and not see lots of reflections. :)

You say the matte screen but in the specs it says glossy?

Good to hear you have delivery but can i ask how long you have waited?

I asked about the matte screen a month or so ago and eventually gave up and ordered it with the glossy. On the day it was due to arrive, PCS posted on the forum that the matte screens had arrived so I requested a matte screen and because of a mix up in the delivery the machine ended up back at PCS and a matte screen was fitted before being shipped out again.

As for the wait, well it was ordered on the 11th Aug, originally shipped on the 25th but because of some delivery issues I only collected it today from the courier depot.

After 3 days I have to say what a great machine. I played FIFA11, which plays at full res with highest quality as I knew it would but given this is the most important 'travel game' for me I was happy to see it. I installed Race Driver GRID, had to play at 1600x900 to get 50 fps at medium quality. It was a quick test but I will do more. Not sure how it will handle Dirt3 and not sure if Dirt2 is less demanding. I have a desktop PC which I built for gaming for anything too hardcore. As I don't play FPS much it's really just racing and football. Next up is Flatout Ultimate Carnage for fun racing and GTR Evolution from SimBiin for some serious racing. I'm a British touring cars fan.

I know the case is plastic but I like the textured matte top and faux brushed aluminum keyboard surround.

I did a quick test of dbPowerAmp format conversion to see it using all 4 cores. I store my music in FLAC and sometimes need to down convert to Ogg or mp3.

Copying from one USB 3.0 external drive to another USB 3.0 external drive at 50MB/s was amazing. Usually copying from USB to USB on a laptop is dire. I'd already started replacing all my external drives and flash drives with USB 3.0 versions.

I haven't found anything to really dislike yet.

are fingerprints visible on the case... particularly the top? does it have a multi-touch track-pad? would you say it is portable? does the vortex 15" have a better quality screen or is it the same as the optimus?

PS: pics would definitely be great.

Fingerprints are not visible, but dust and dirt is (rough texture). It's the sort of material that makes scratches clearly visible but allows you to wipe them off with ease (as demonstrated below).

Just installed Dirt2 and I'm getting 60 fps at 1600x900 on medium detail settings. Looks pretty good even on a 46" TV.

Dirt 3 is pretty much the same... I can run it at native resolution (1920x1080) with most settings on high, some on medium and some on ultra at a stable 30 fps.

Ordered mine 2 days ago... hope it comes soon i need it asap!
Is yours still working well? Pcs do offer upgrade service according to some other threads but seriously why not get an external blu-ray drive or upgrade it yourself, it is one of tin easiest things to upgrade in a laptop.

Hi, I am also thinking about purchasing this machine.

Although I have a few concerns....

Sound is rubbish considering the price point (thats okay I use headphones anyway)

The battery life is 4 Hours at best with the 62.12WH battery but currently the 48.85WH capacity is only available. I wish Clevo made a 9 cell battery I would have loved to have around 5 hours guaranteed.

Heat seems to be a cause of concern for many customers, I read these on the sager, kobalt and other reseller forums

Also the screen at full HD is a bit much for me as I will feel a bit of eye strain, other resellers had the 1600x900 version which was perfect for me.... Do you know if the Full HD screen will alow me to set the resolution to 1600x900 without distorting the aspect ratio or changing the quality of the image.

Any feedback would be gratefully appeciated

Many Thanks

Ive found some reviews by offcial sites for the same Clevo model as the Optimus II :

1. We have the 62.16WH batteries back in stock. They will be available on the website shortly.

2. 1920 / 1080 = 1.7777... Any aspect ration that divides by this will not distort, so 1600 x 900 is perfectly fine.

Thanks for the reply.

I understand its possible the screen can use 1600x900 due to the aspect ratio.
But can you 100% confirm the graphics card and glossy or Matt hd screen can actually set the resolution to 1600*900. I've seen some FHD screens haven't been able to do this for some reason

Top Tip about the screen resolution thing: The nvidia control panel lets you set an option so that the nvidia graphics chip automatically up-scales the image to your monitor's native screen resolution, no matter what resolution your desktop/application is using. It also has options to let you pick if you want the image to be stretched or have it's aspect ratio kept. This is good for those really old games that run in 640x480, as you can get full screen with black bars down the sides and it means your LCD display can display at any resolution, because it'll always be fed an image that is at its native resolution.

I should point out that I don't know how the optimus technology affects this, however it's mostly useful for games anyway. If you're having trouble using applications/windows itself, it's better to change the DPI settings and scale everything. Some apps don't like this and get distorted, but you can make windows scale those in a special way, as if you're running them at a lower resolution.
