NAS RAID recommendations

My Vortex II HDD is running out of space. I was going to get another internal HDD but most of the stuff is music, TV progs, films that I've ripped from DVD. I figured it might be a better idea to stream them from a NAS to either the PS3 or the laptop and means other family members can also use it (hopefully).

I was looking at 1TB RAID 1 set ups but this is all new to me. Any help would be appreciated.

A NAS is a good idea, I remember seeing a pretty cheap wired one although im not sure if i can link it here, they will allow everyone to see the data stored on it

Hmm.. good points to look at are:
connectivity: USB 3.0 and Gigabit network interface so it supports 10/100/1000 speeds, you may want firewire also, but I think it's the thing of the past when USB 3.0 is out. More expensive ones come also with 2 network sockets, so you can have them paired for better speeds or redundancy - again not sure if you need that at all for home use.
hard drives - RAID 1 we talking 2x HDD, don't buy cheap! ... make sure these drives are 7.2k rpm - also you may want hot swappable drives. I would opt for hot swappable, but in home use this is not that important.

...also a lot of modern (NAS) devices offer some additional services if you require them in future, like FTP server, databases, SSH access itp... basically more money you want to invest more features you will get. Unfortunetly, I am not familiar with basic home NAS storage, I am talking only more business oriented... I know Qnap is a good name in NAS world, they have a nice range of such devices - but again it may be too pricey. Also Bufallo does some NAS devices for home use...
