Hi there! I am thinking about getting the Defiance 15 laptop in this configuration : cpu i7 4720, 8gb of ram, gtx 980m, 240 gb ssd, killer wirelless, arctic thermal cpu paste

My main concern is fan noise. I had a vortex laptop before and it was the most annoying laptop in the history of laptops . I understand fan noise when gaming or doing some heavy processing, but when browsing the web ,watching YouTube or playing a game of chess online it is unacceptable for me. The fans were starting even on idle every about 30s to 1 minute.
The defiance looks great in terms of specs and design , it's thin and has a back-lit keyboard. I am coming from a macbook now, and if you compare the dimensions there isn't much between the defiance 15 and macbook pro 15. What I like about the mac is it's QUIET operation under normal to a bit more advanced use . What I want is to be able to play some games too and use a chess engine , my macbook air struggled allot with the chess engine getting very hot and ready to lift itself off the table when the fan started spinning.
For those that have the defiance : How is the defiance in terms of fan noise ? if you don't mind give me a couple of scenarios and programs that you use and hear the fans.

As said before, the vortex has excellent cooling which i can attest to. I've had mine for 18 months and I never hear the fans except when gaming.

If the fans were running high I would suggest it's because the system wasn't maintained properly as you'd have to do with any gaming laptop by taking it apart and cleaning the cooling lanes and repasting every couple of years or so.

The defiance is also excellent at cooling. I stress that any laptop that isn't serviced will in the end ramp up fans as it's overheating and not able to disperse airflow. That's normal with a gaming laptop.

Is it true that the defiance 15 has a program to control the fans ?

I bought the vortex in 2012 and kept it for about 1 year and a half then sold it.
