Need advice - Laptop Gaming - CPU Temperature

Hi,

I am an French buyer and i want to buy an Laptop Gaming. (sorry if my English is not perfect).

I want to configure an Laptop Gaming and i am hesitating beetween this 2 spec:

- 15,6" PROTEUS VI RTX: 2070 RTX, i7 8750h (option with Cooler Master Mastergel Maker Thermal paste)
- 17,3" OCTANE VI: 2070 RTX, i7 8700 (option with Cooler Master Mastergel Maker Thermal paste)

We know that these processor hit frequently 90/95°+ in stress test for the great brand like MSI, Asus etc due to a bad pasting. Some users have to repaste and undervolt the CPU to reach "decent" temp around 80/85°.

So my question is, with these two differents spec and a good thermal paste (Cooler Master Mastergel Maker), should i have decent CPU temp ? Do we have bench who can reassure me ?

Why the Octane? Do you do video editing or something that benefits from the extra CPU horsepower?

The recoil also performs solidly with temps. This is the Recoil non-RTX, so I'm not sure what differences there are in the chassis other than the GPU type obviously. Probably not much difference?

In general, people who have bought recoils and then posted on these forums have been happy with temps.

Undervolting is worth considering whatever laptop you buy. Lowering the power consumption can help improve boost clocks, regardless of thermal issues I believe.

The Octane's thickness is better than Proteus (i think it'll help for the temp) and the 8700 is also better than the 8750h, that's why i was thinking about the Octane.

Oh, sorry, you said Proteus and I read it as Recoil :/ This is why I posted links about the Recoil... sorry.

The chassis thickness is deceptive.

The Recoil, for example, cools very well despite having a very thin chassis.

While with the Octane, it needs a thicker chassis because the CPUs have much higher power consumption.

For most gaming uses, the CPU will make little difference to performance.

A mild undervolt on my Proteus VI dropped the CPU temps down from 95-98 to 76-78 whilst helping boost clocks too. The chassis isn't what I'd call fat but it is thicker than a recoil for example. The fans perform well though to exhaust the hot air out of the back of the laptop.
