Heyy again, i was speaking with my mate about buying a pc from here. It ended in him asking me if i could build a pc for him, his budget is low and i said it might be hard. his budget is maybe to low to make a decent comp. its only £450 but he isnt a gamer. only game he plays is minecraft on my server. any ideas? i know it isnt much to work with. he does like AMD aswell but is open to intel aswell.

I presume he already has a monitor and keyboard etc? Even if thats the case £450 is still a bit tight, £500-£550 would build a much much better system.

Here is a £450 spec that should play minecraft and perform general day to day tasks, it obviously not a beast but is about the best you can do for the money.

oh right, looks like someone beat me to posting a spec!!! Basically mine has better processing power, mantadog's has better graphics so would be better for gaming. The hdds are different but I don't really know what the performance difference will be, also the mobo is different, As far as I know the only difference is in the usb types, mantadog's is faster! Also mine has a silver warranty with it!!! I am sure someone will tell you whose is best, it probably won't be mine, just my luck!!!!

Your spec isn't too different to the one i originally tried, i had a quick look on a website that gives you the rough idea of how your spec would play a game and found i needed a slightly better card than the 6450, and that a dual core would play minecraft alright.

The caviar green is cheaper and probably faster, the floods in thailand have messed up HDD prices alot.

Minecraft isnt strictly gaming if you get what i mean.

Pretty much any CPU will let you play minecraft, try downgrading music mans spec and see if you can fit in a better GPU for less money if you like, i have to shoot so i don't have time but i doubt it will make much difference.

Ok, did a little more research, Caviar green is probably slower, especially in access times and sequential read. Basically as far as I can see, this is your choice...if it is going to be used for gaming, go for Mantadog's, if it is going to be used for every day stuff with the odd light gaming session, I'd say mine was better. However, your choice!!! Mantadog is probably more experienced than me so it may be worth going with his!!!

The green wont be noticable in every day use, and even if you used it hard, were talking about a few seconds longer total times. It will perform fine for your friends uses, and because of your tight budget it is very slightly cheaper.

I would say ether build is fine, but really a 6450 would be on the low side, maybe see if your friend can up the budget by even a little?

Ok, I think this is a comprimise...It has my proccessor and warranty but Mantadog's cheaper hdd. It does include an upgrade to my graphics card. Tell us what you think!!!

this will play minecraft very well, this CPU will also probably outperform all of the CPUs above, as well as the graphics card being twice as good

at £459.00 its pretty awesome

the i3 above will definitely outperform as it also has hyperthreading, it also has a faster hard drive (although not as big) and the GT440 will wipe the floor with any of the previos cards suggested, and if he can afford it, tell him to get a GTS450, or maybe a 550Ti they are really good budget cards and he will then be able to jump into pretty much any game with good settings

With the extra £50, the second pc would be a lot better. I know he isn't such a fan of intel but tbh, their CPUs are much more reliable and faster. From my experience, I have tried both brands and haven't liked the and one but that is just my opnion!!! Best of luck!!!

The HD5670 beats the GT440 in a lot of games and the HD6670 is an improvement over the HD5670 so the HD6670 is better than the GT440. In terms of a CPU, the Phenom II x2 565 is better than the G860 but it is more expensive. The new llano chips are better than intels' (up to i7-2600) lineup when the CPU's are using integrated graphics. With a discrete graphics card though all of the CPU's mentioned so far will be great in minecraft.

Intel CPU's are not more reliable and they're not always faster it's just that when you compare the top CPU's from both companies Intels' CPU's generally perform better in most applications.

Fair enough, I am sure they are, it is just that I have had an AMD processor and my bother had an intel processor in our laptops and his outperformed mine in various different ways. But I am sure they do make some good processors and they are very competitive but I am just an intel guy!!!

This may be true however you can't simply compare any AMD CPU to any Intel one, there's lots of different CPU's made by both companies that perform on different levels. The cost to manufacture the CPU within your brothers' laptop probably cost more than the one in your laptop.
