Need some advice/help...

First of all any advice given is greatly appreciated as I do not have much knowledge when it comes to PC Building.

A few years ago I bought a mediocre PC for gaming on, It was okay but over the years an "Overheating" issue occurred that to this day I still do not know the cause (I believe it to be PSU). When trying to resolve this issue I applied new thermal paste etc and even went to the extension of buying a new Graphics Card and received a 1TB SSD as a gift at xmas which I installed.

My problem is now whether I would be better to sell valuable components that remain in my old PC or to keep them and either Build around them or simply install them into a New Built PC as I am not exactly confident when it comes to "building" a PC as such.
The "valuable" parts I have are:

1TB SSD (as stated above) - MSI GEFORCE GTX 660 - 16GB RAM

I would be looking to spend £500-600 excluding the value of these components. As I said, Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Both the SSD and GPU are very easy to install. You could do em both in half an hour including a tea break.

if you had anther £600 to spend you could get an i5, decent motherboard and a 550w PSU, so it might be worth keeping your SSD + GPU.

Hi There, Thanks for the reply.

The thing I was thinking about was if I were to buy a "Pre-Built" PC then I would be able to take out warranty and avoid any "overheating" issues in the future. My thoughts were to look for a Decent PC for 500-600 + Value of GPU and just put the SSD in it ?

If so, Do you have any recommendations for Pre Built PC's for in and around that value?

Thanks again for the help!

What CPU have you currently got? They haven't progressed half as much as GPUs. A decent one bought in the last 4 years isn't worth replacing.

I bought the PC maybe 3 or 4 years ago, But the overheating problem has just cause me so many problems that I didn't really want to do much with it as components might be fried. Buying a PC with warranty and putting my valuable components into it seemed like a better idea.

Fantastic, Thank you very much....

If I were to take the Windows 10 out of the price (Already own a copy), Where would you invest the remaining money ? I also believe to have 16GB in RAM but not sure if thats to of any use.

Thanks again for the help, really appreciate it.

The only key upgrade I would make from this is upping the PSU to the CS series. Modular, quieter and better components.

Ok Thanks, Is there an argument to invest the money in an i7 and if so, Does it require more money spent on other components to maximise its use?

I went for an i7 because I could afford it. There is minimal performance increase for gaming, but I hope there will be some improvement when I get back to editing all my family photos and videos. If on a budget, the i5 should be more than adequate for your usage. If you do plump for an i7, I would change to ddr4 RAM, but thats just me.
