New computer seems so sluggish

Hey guys,

Had my new PC delivered yesterday. Only had a few hours with it so far, but already have had 3 crashes where it's been completely unresponsive to shutdown/restart. Some programs seem to hang for ages. I've had to reset the computer by the reset button on the case each time.

Also had a quick look in the motherboard settings on startup and the CPU temp was at 49'C... which is quite high for an idle system without overclocking?

Cheers

Be careful about hitting the reset too often, because it might be writing something to the hard drive, and you effectively cut power to it, which might cause it some damage, as said above contact support rather than try and fudge it.

I hope you get it sorted out okay, best of luck.

Those resets weren't done in a huff, it was the only thing to do. It was left for 40 mins while I had visitors over, and was still unresponsive.

It's been running fine for the last hour or so, but I'm still worried about the idle CPU temp.

Will definitely get on the phone and email them.

Thanks

Those temperatures don't sound too bad to me, my PC has been going between 41 and 52 degrees on my four cores, and it hasn't been on for long, and all I've been doing is a bit of web surfing, so 49 sounds fine to me.

Edit: I'm on a non-overclocked i7-930 with a Titan cooler for reference

So what is the reset button for? I've heard a couple of people say that using it could potentially damage the mobo.

If you get a freeze, what would be best, hit the reset button or just hold the power button in to shut down and reboot?

Ah fair enough. I only ask because a friend has an overclocked i5 2500k and his idle temps are between 30-40.

I have noticed the CPU fan sporadically jumping from 2k revs to 50k+ every so often though.

As for the system crashing it's been fine since. I'll just put it down to all the windows updates being applied...and 'first day nerves'.

Been busy with work and family life, but here are the pictures I've managed to get of it.

The temps are fine at the moment though, been running coretemp and I havent hit 60'c yet under full load.

But is it a matter of time before the fan just goes kaput?
