New Gaming PC

Hi, I have decided to buy a new gaming PC, ( last one was 7 years ago) so I am a bit out of touch with the specs, set a budget of £600.00[rollinglaugh][rollinglaugh] and started to investigate what I can buy.
Below is £662.00. Biggest upgrade cost was the Graphics card, 2gb HD7870 instead of a 1gb HD6670. Is this overkill for games like Whitcher 2 etc?
Any thoughts, suggestions will be gratefully received.

Regards Gary

For the Witcher 2 the HD 7870 is a good choice, you could consider upgrading to a caviar black if possible.

Thanks for the reply, 500 or 1tb caviar black? and how would it better as the specs seem the same, but I am a novice and this is my first build so open to any advice.

The Caviar Black has a larger cache (64MB instead of 16MB), therefore it will make for slightly faster booting and loading of applications.

OK thanks for the explanation, so this spec should keep me going for a few years?

For your budget is a very good spec, the power supply you have chose may limit you on possible upgrades in term of a better graphics card.

OK I am going for the 500mb Caviar Black, I think I will leave the 350w psu in place because,

1) I hope not to upgrade anything for at least 2-3 years and by then there could be advances in the PSU area + drop in cost.

2) What size psu to upgrade to now not knowing what I could be upgrading later ( does that make sense?)

3) I have no money left.

4) The amount I spend on a new PC I have to equal that for her new clothes !!!! so it doubles the cost!

Thanks for all who helped.

The only problem with keeping the PSU low is that the closer you are to your maximum capacity, the more stress the PSU is going to be put under and the more chance of it becoming faulty. Even if you could just upgrade to the next size up the computer will run a lot happier in general. Your decision though, I just don't agree with spending £600 on pretty top spec hardware and then skimping out on the thing that essentially keeps it running.

Point taken on the psu, new spec below,
One other question though, whilst looking at other peoples specs I have noticed that KINGSTON HYPER-X GENESIS ram is prefered, but it does not seem avaliable to me under the ram spec ? just Samsung.

For gaming there is no noticeable difference between the samsung 1333mhz and the kingston 1600mhz.
