Hi All,

As the title says! I am a newby twitch streamer (Console and PC) - I stream things like CSGO on PC and Fortnite for PS4.
However, i'm wanting to move to Fortnite on PC but my current set-up is restricting me! I'm literally getting like 30-60fps drops on pretty much all settings (when i stream).

No worries. I can't give you much advice, I'm not terribly clued up (particularly with the AMD side of things) but i can confirm that the guys on here really know their stuff. There's a lot to be learned just looking at other people's posts while you wait for one of the big guns to answer your queries.

What is your budget, what monitor are you pairing this with, and what did the above cost?

May be overkill / wasteful for your uses

You didn't give your budget/ the cost of the above and it's a bit hard to be specific without knowing, but:

Threadripper CPU is really for workstation / rendering type uses. If you're streaming, a Ryzen 7 or Intel i7 8th Gen will do you fine, and either would be a truly massive upgrade over your FX series.

You might consider threadripper or Intel i9 for streaming if you were streaming to both twitch and youtube at the same time, and basically made your living off streaming. If that's not you, then I don;'t think spending £500 more on features and cores you won't really need is the right play.

And to be honest, if you were that kind of streamer, you would probably look to have 2 PCs - 1 to play the games on, and 1 to do the streaming/encoding.

You should get the 3000MHz RAM as it can help a lot in some titles.

The sound card is probably pointless as the mobos already have fairly decent onboard audio. Save yourself £72 and a PCIe slot.

Drop the USB card as the motherboards already have a good quantity of USB ports.

The 'Pro' and WD Black HDDs are very expensive and not really needed for your uses.

Buy an SSD. e.g. a PM961 from the M.2 SSD Menu

Consider a Ryzen build with an R7 1800x here: https://www.pcspecialist.co.uk/computers/amd-am4-pc/

How about this? (I will be streaming to 2 different sites) both for PC Gaming and when i use my Elgato for Consoles.
Saved myself £400 - Based of what you said and also downgrading to a 1900 rather than a 1920. But would that stump me?

So hard to get this right!

The 1900x basically is an 1800x, with a more expensive setup (more expensive mobo, more expensive PSU, etc)

Try the link I posted in my previus post for the regular Ryzen systems. Go with the R7 1800x rather than the Threadripper 1900x.

I will be streaming to 2 different sites
Simultaneously? You self-define as a newby streamer, and you will be a) running a PC game b) streaming that game to twitch and c) streaming that game to youtube all at the same time? Just to be clear?

If that's what you're actually doing, and you're really 100% sure you're doing that, an Intel i9 7900x might be the way to go.

1 in every 2 streams will be done simultaneously via 2 sources yeah.

I had a look at that link, but it really doesn't seem very powerful?

How are you making that assessment? :)

The 1900x is an 1800x. But on a more expensive motherboard. They are literally as powerful as each other. It's like saying two identical cars aren't as powerful because one's painted red and the other one's not...

The 1900x has a higher end motherboard series with things like lots of PCIe lanes. I.e. things that are pretty much entirely irrelevant for your uses as far as I can see. The motherboard will not affect gaming and streaming performance.

That said, if you really are going to be streaming like that, a 12 core threadripper or an i9 7900x (which has better gaming performance) would be the way to go.

Okay, serious now. It would probably make more sense for you to buy 2 computers.

Plus an Elgato PCIe card and any other bits you need.

Gaming PC:

Overclocked i7 8700k, 16gb RAM, SSD + 5TB HDD. £1200 e.g. https://www.pcspecialist.co.uk/saved-configurations/intel-z370-overclocked/GDgnfhKPeS/
When just streaming with 1 service you could very likely just stick to the i7 8700k on its own and not even fire up the other PC.

Of course you could get it a lot cheaper, and go for an system with an i5 8500 (which is still a very powerful gaming CPU) for about £930: https://www.pcspecialist.co.uk/saved-configurations/intel-z370-pc/QFM6EQMKts/
An i5 wouldn't be great for streaming on its own, but if you'll be using the stream PC half the time anyway it gives similar gaming performance as the above for ~£300 less
