New keyboard for gaming

The Deathstalker isn't a Mechanical board so you're paying for the brand and flashy lights rather than the quality of the keys. For that sort of money I would be looking into Mechanical keyboard territory - preferably something with Cherry Red switches for gaming (that's the type of switch, not the colour of the backlighting!).

Tom made a thread a few days ago to compare the different switches: https://www.pcspecialist.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?31148-Mechanical-Keyboard-Guide

That is the keyboard I have and it is great - nice compliment to the Razer mouse. Like the DeathAdder, the BlackWidow was / is my first propper gaming keyboard and once again it was a revelation compared to the regular keyboards I'd been using before. It can take a while to get used to the font on the keyboard (but hey, we;re all touch typists anyway!) and the key click, but once past those the positive key feedback and comfort are great.

That said, my next keyboard will, as Grimezy suggests, have Cherry Red switches instead of the Blue (IIRC) that the Blackwidow has.

The Blackwidow would be fine but it is on Cherry Blue keys. This means there's a tactile 'click' rather than one smooth linear movement down the key. Some would say Blue's are better for typing whereas reds are better for gaming, others would say you can use both for both, etc, it's all personal opinion really. I tried a Blackwidow in the shop and it didn't feel particularly sturdy, it was just very light and clicky, however the clickiness was pretty addictive for typing, not sure how it would be for gaming!

Some people love the Razer boards though so it's your call really. I personally would be looking at the Corsair K series or perhaps CM Storms. If Razer is what you want though then you can't really go wrong with the one you posted :)

quite a few chaps going for mechanical kb's. I like it.

I have a Cm storm Quickfire TK with red lighting and red switches. Great little KB.

I'd recommend any of the CM storm kb's, this thing is pretty solid and well built! I'd like to get a bigger version, but im a bit skint at the moment and the missus wouldnt be impressed. hahah

Just as it happens I'm typing something up and I haven't finished yet. I'll let you know what I think of it.

Maybe Outerarm could give you some feedback on it because he has the keyboard :)

I'll have the peripherals tomorrow :D

Received my new keyboard a couple of hours ago. I have to say that it will take me a while to get used to typing as I keep pressing the micro keys on the left hand side. Although I like it so far, I do wish the keys were lighted up.

Now I have to learn to control games with the keyboard and mouse and do some 'real' gaming without my xbox controller :)

Damn! the keys are LOUD when I type quickly!!

They're fine, but they are so loud than what I'm used to. But I'm sure I'll get used to them in a few weeks. I think it'll depend on how much typing I do lol
