New Laptop - Error Code 0x80072f8f

Got a new laptop from PCSpecialist 36 hours ago (I can post spec if needed). After I had been through basic set-up I noticed the clock was wrong so I corrected it and set it to set time and time zone automatically, after doing a successful time sync.

After that I nipped over to Windows Play to start downloading stuff and immediately got error messages - Code 0x80072f8f. Furthermore anything that requires connecting to a server doesn't work (e.g. Steam).

I can go on the internet fine, but am otherwise stuck. Have tried the basic fixes for this code (most of which are to do what I already did) but no success.

I have emailed tech support but I assume they are having a well-deserved rest over the bank holiday. I would normally wait for their response, but I fancy doing some gaming tomorrow...

Any suggestions?

Hiya, could you post your full specs from the order page?

What do you mean by Windows Play?

And sorry, I mean the Microsoft Store not Windows Play. Clearly too early for my brain to work.

Also how did you set up windows as something doesn't sound right if you had to change the clock, as one of the first questions you get asked to confirm is country and timezone

Yep. Went through the set-up process early evening on Friday, where I specified timezone and all that info, then put it down to charge while I put the kids to bed. Picked it up again about 10:30 to start installing stuff and nothing seemed to work, was investigating things when I realised that the clock said something like 10:35pm when the real time was 11:15pm. So I re-set the clock.

Any chance it could be something as silly as British summertime not being enabled?
(Although I thought that was automatic with windows these days)

Ive seen electronic equipment refuse to connect via the internet before due to timezones being incorrect or clocks not updated with UK summertime changes.

Just get on with it, only takes half an hour or so, here's how to do it:

Download a new copy of Windows using the Media Creation Tool (Second option on linked page) to an 8GB (min) USB.
Boot that USB and choose a Custom Install.
Delete all UEFI partitions on the system drive (EFI System, Recovery, MSR Reserved, Primary).
Select the unallocated space that results and click the Next button. The installer will create the correct partitions and install Windows.
Run Windows Update repeatedly, even across reboots, until no more updates are found.
You may need/want to download and install the latest graphics driver from the Nvidia/AMD website (they change so regularly the latest version isn't always in the Windows libraries).

This is also worth a watch
