Hello,

I just tried to reapply the thermal paste on CPU and GPU on a newly bought octane 3 laptop. But now every time I load a game(any game, low or intensive games even firestrike test) , it would instantly crashes after 3 sec. What have I done Wrong, did I damage anything? Temperatures were Low staying at 50 and I have tried reinstalling the graphic drivers

Thanks

If 50 is when idle then that's far too high, sounds like the repaste isn't correct.

by50, I mean the highest temeprature reached before the game crashes, at idle ,it sits at 40. I just counted that everygame will just crashes after 3 seconds.. always 3 seconds

What are you using to read temps and is the 50 on cpu or gpu?

I used Hwmonitor. I did a test with one game, heres what happend: After 3 sec of running, the game first has some random color tearing, then the screen becomes black and eventually shut down. Meanwhile the GPU and CPU temperature didn't go over 70.

First time I did repaste, I applied too much paste and some of those went side of the GPU ( Square ) , I thought that was the cause of the issue, So I cleaned the whole thing and reapplied the thermal paste. But same problem consist to happen again. Did I damage the GPU? But I can run normal softwares fine but only when running games its occuring. Thanks

Where did you reinstall graphics drivers from and what version?

And what did you use to clean the old paste off?

I clean installed the graphic drivers from Nvidia Experience .
I used ArctiClean 1/2 thermal material remover for cleaning GPU and CPU

I got GTX 1080.. When running Tomb raider, the temeprature goes up to 95 after a hour of playing, so I thought it would help if I did repaste. But the problem is , before I reapply the paste, the game still run smoothly without crashing even playing at 95.. But after repaste, it crashes instantly even when the temeprature was below 70.

Did you remove the battery and unplug it before repasting?

Sorry for all the questions, just trying to get a clear picture.

I unpluged everythng , but not battery. Does it mean its damaged? If yes what should I do. Thanks

It's quite possible the GPU is damaged as there would have been current running through it during tooling and repasting could have meant a surge.

I'd get someone else's view on it though.

Personally I'd call PCS, be perfectly honest with them and get them to look at it.

Hi ,

I had a similar problem , my games would crash after repaste ... because that time i have changed my paste type and i forgot to brush while removing the old paste this time.... but in my case games would crash only when gpu is underclocked curve in msi afterburner... so i opened it again and removed paste cleaned it alot this time and brushed it and the surrounding motherboard area as i thought the cleaning alcohol couldve spoiled some gpu fuzes, so i brushed everything clean and softly and i have put back the old thermal paste which was mx4 and increased a bit than before (spread it around with a needle or something) ....and everything worked fine like it was hefore

so it could be your paste type didn’t suit your hardware, or you spoiled around the gpu/cpu area fuzes and those little things are important and no liquid should touch them so brush the cpu/gpu and surroundings softly, or you did put little paste and havent spread it manualy so readings get messed up sometimes

Oh and i advice you to get Arcticlean kit it comes with a thermal paste remover and purifier, it cleans better than alcohol.... also use a cloth and a brush, never use tissue or cotton ear swabs because they get stuck sometimes
