New machine

Hey guys,

So I'm in desperate need of a new machine, as my current machine (from PC Specialists) has just turned 7 years old!

I will be using the machine for gaming mainly, looking to get as much bang for buck as I can around £2K. I've had the below build off a couple of friends, but wondered if you guys who really know your stuff notice anything or have any suggestions?

You can definitely do better in terms of value for money and frankly raw performance for the cash.

What monitor are you using?

Are you planning to upgrade that? If so, when, and with what budget?

I am planning on upgrading to a 144hz monitor from my standard 60hz 1080 I have, prob spend a few hundred on that.

Unless you need the onboard wifi, then I would switch to the Gigabyte Aorus pro. It's £58 cheaper and at least as good as the Asus.

The Gigabyte board fits your build fine. You could use the saving to upgrade your second drive to the 4TB Baraccuda.

This is a 1440p 144hz monitor with gsync, and is the sort of thing you should indeed be looking at for this budget.

Graphics Card8GB ASUS ROG STRIX GEFORCE RTX 2070 - HDMI, DP

The Asus 2070 is almost £200 more expensive than the regular 2070. An RTX 2080 is less than £70 more. The Asus cards almost always have an insane markup, and this is one of the most egregious examples of the so-called Asus Tax. Don't buy the Asus 2070 - or any Asus GPU - at this kind of price difference.

An AMD R7 system would be better value. In that it's £200 cheaper, and makes no meaningful performance difference at 1440p. To back that up:
