The dell S2716DG is 144hz Gsync and an absolute drinker, would highly recommend, shop around and should see it for 500.

Funny thats one of the ones i have bookmarked. Its a TN monitor (Not really sure what that means)

TN v IPS?

Thanks

If you're used to TN panels and don't mind using them, and you know exactly what to expect, then I suppose you might want to consider it.

In my opinion, TN is absolutely awful and should be avoided like the plague. TN panels have very poor colour reproduction, restricted viewing angles and offer an inferior viewing experience. IPS panels are the real deal: they offer much better viewing angles, better colour reproduction and provide for a much more pleasant viewing experience. That's just my experience though, some people like to use TN panels and don't mind them. But if you haven't tried IPS before, I would strongly recommend going for that.

A 1440p IPS G-sync monitor with 144 Hz refresh rate (in my opinion, this is the ideal monitor to pair with the 1080) is gonna set you back significantly more than £500 though. The Acer Predator XB271HU seems like a good contender at first glance, but it'll set you back over £600 and it has some very serious quality control issues so you're very likely to end up with a faulty model. You don't really have a lot of options if you narrow down your search to IPS, 27 inch, G-sync, 1440p and 144 Hz. There's another such monitor, the ASUS ROG Swift PG2, which you can look into. It costs over £750 and has some serious quality control issues. These two monitors seem to be the top contenders given those criteria that I've outlined here. But like I said, buying either one of these monitors is like playing the lottery: you may hit the jackpot and end up extremely satisfied, or you might draw the short straw and get one of the defective monitors and end up having to return it to Amazon, it's a huge hassle. It's a risky business.

Thanks for the advice everyone.

So i think the monitor i am looking for should have:

27 Inch
1440p
144Hz
G-Sync
IPS

By the looks of it this is going to cost me £650 - £ 800 pounds.

Not many options out there. I thought there would be lots of options for me

Thanks again

You can increase your options by looking into monitors with lower refresh rates. I know almost nothing about monitors, but from my limited research, it seems that 60 Hz monitors aren't that bad, people seem to like them quite a bit. The consensus seems to be that if you're a very competitive gamer (for example, one who plays competitive online multiplayer first person shooters) and rely heavily on your monitor having the highest possible refresh rate, then you'd probably want to avoid the 60 Hz monitors. However, if you don't have that specific requirement for the highest possible refresh rate, then 60 Hz monitors might be a viable option. But don't take my word for it, I don't really know anything about this stuff, so you might want to do some research and ask around.

With a 1080 a 60hz would be a waste.

The TN panel on the dell is exceptional. I have it alongside an IPS monitor and it's very good indeed. The TN panels these days are excellent, nothing like they used to be.

I live and die by my budget IPS panels but I have heard such good things about the dell monitor that I'd certainly consider it:

DELL s2716dg - http://www1.euro.dell.com/content/p...ell-s2716dg-monitor?c=uk&cs=ukdhs1&l=en&s=dhs

TFT Central: http://www.tftcentral.co.uk/reviews/dell_s2716dg.htm

The PC Monitors review has some detailed info on the colours and a video showing the viewing angles.

Wow, that PC monitors review is about as comprehensive as I've ever seen, impressive.

I like their reviews. Just don't try posting the actual link to the PC Monitors review because without fail the spam filter will block it. :/

I assume because it lacks a WWW (tinyurl seems ok though) or maybe because it's a dot-info address - some hardware dot info links I've tried to post recently have been similarly snaffled.
