New Optimus IV - no audio through speakers in Windows 8?

Hi,
Just got my new optimus IV today.
Installed Windows 8 and using the driver downloads from http://www.clevo.com.tw/en/e-services/download.asp for a W370ET have pretty much everything working (I care about) .... except sound through the speakers :(

When you test audio, you get the animation but no sound via the speakers. Playback device is set as realtek speaker.
In device manager I have two entries under Sound, video
1. High Definition Audio Device - which is showing as an alert - "This device cannot start (Code 10) {Operation Failed}..."
2. Realtek High Definition Audio

Any ideas?

(I see others in forum have also had issues getting audio to work on Optimus IV with Windows 8)

P.S. This is my 4th pc from pcspecialist - and first time I feel let down by the experience. Tracking down drivers for this notebook has been ridiculously involved. It should have all been linked from my account download link - which seems to only link to a single bios update?

Tried driver from disk and windows update. No joy. Drivers on disk are Windows 7. Drivers on website are Windows 8 (and 7)

This is now a common problem between the Optimus IV and Windows 8.

The course of action is to call PCS as soon as possible to obtain a pen drive with a BIOS update to flash.

Ideally I would like PCS to flash the BIOS of ALL Optimus IV's, though I would imagine this would be even more work for PCS. But if the BIOS update has no effect to Windows 7 users and fixes audio issues of Windows 8 users then I would strongly encourage PCS to update the BIOS of all Optimus IV's going out to save any more problems in the future.

I'll try and contact PCS tomorrow to get an update on this issue.

The driver issue isn't too much of a problem, I just download every Windows 8 driver from the Clevo site and make sure they're backed up safe, then check to see if they've been updated every once in a while. There was a thread started to see if PCS would include a driver section on it's home page which would make life easier, but I think issues may stop it from happening.

As for the link to the single BIOS update, I could never find mine and had to obtain a pen drive from them directly.

Now don't get me wrong, I certainly don't have a grudge against PCS, but the current issues between Optimus IV and Windows 8 has been a bit of a black mark on their account, unless they have a very good reason for it to happen.

I have an Optimus IV too with Windows 8 and had to find out the hard way what was happening, took about a week from finding the fault to actually getting it fixed.

Hope you get it fixed soon.

Edit:

As a side note, PCS has to rely on what they're given from Clevo themselves, so I might try email Clevo too to see if they can rectify the Optimus IV situation, also to see if they can start or supply Windows 8 driver discs.

Pagey - thanks very much for the info. If its a known issue with a known work around then I would at least expect to be notified before I took receipt of the laptop, although 100% agree that PCS should update the BIOS in advance or at least include a bootable usb. I'll get onto them.

The clevo download was ok... but I had to do too much forum searching to a) find out that clevo was the place to go and b) what model number my Optimus IV was. all too fiddly :(

If you want a giggle, have a look on the underside of the laptop, you'll find the model number there. Took me ages to realize it.

But yes, there is a lot of confusion and If PCS can't do a driver section then I might just see if I can get a stickie put up especially for laptop users to show them where to go and what to look for.

THX thingy installed but states "There is no supported audio device available". I have a usb speaker set - will have to do for the moment... :(

I don't use the THX software anymore it's pretty redundant. I also use Realteks own drivers for audio.

Personally for audio I steer well clear of Clevo's own drivers.
