Hi everyone, please excuse my extreme naivity into all things geek chic. We had our new pc delivered approximately a week ago and all was going well until this evening, went to turn it on and was greeted with one long beep followed by for shorter ones.

This is on a p8z77-v lk and a gtx 670. I'll post the full spec in a few minutes.

Any ideas would be much appreciated whilst pcs is shut as I work 8-6 so may struggle going over bits on the phone with them. Have no issues with take things apart, have an extremely urgent work project to get working on and this has been a right kick in the teeth.

Thanks ladies and gents.

Rick.

If you look in the manual (or particularly the motherboard manual) it should tell you the meaning of the beeps. Different beeps have different meanings and should give a clue as to what is wrong.

ADDED

Don't like to worry you but in my Asus motherboard manual it means 'hardware componant failure' so I think you should contact PCS.

there are some things you can try tonight to isolate the hardware fault.
Disconnect virtually everything from your motherboard (pull out the connectors) so that you only have 1 stick of ram and power connected, I think your mobo has a graphics card so you dont even need this. So no hard drives or dvd drives or gtx670.
Now turn on the pc and see if the machine will boot or make the beeping sound. If it does make the beep try a different stick of ram or a different ram slot. If it still beeps and you have tried every combination then it is probably your motherboard.

If it doesn't beep then progressively add more components until it does beep and then you can find your fault.

Thanks for the advice and kind words guys.

Had a little dig about but the issue seems to have no rhyme or reason that I can see. Ram out, switched around, beeps with a 1 in 20 boot which only takes me to windows recovery which will then try to restart and subsequently not boot on the restart. Same with the graphics card.

Have contacted PCS who are picking up tomorrow, so big thanks to the guys there.

On the plus side, when it did run, it was fantastic. Bought tomb raider for £15 and was completely blown away having come from console gaming my entire life.

Heres hoping it's a quick fix :detective:

Here's hoping you get it back soon.

When you do get it back let us know what the problem was, I am curious.

Will do. It was picked up a little earlier today so with the timescale of 7 working days I just hope theres good news before my two week block holiday comes around. I have some serious gaming to get done :)

Longest Bank Holiday weekend ever hnnnnng. PC was delivered yesterday to PCS whilst it sat at the couriers over the Bank holiday and I'm itching to get some news, these guys must hate people checking up on the every five minutes so I'm doing my best not to pester them just yet.

Fantastic forum too btw, the games thread will see me with more than I can play in a year within a week!

Have heard back now. GPU and PSU both goosed. They replaced the PSU with another of the same and still couldn't get it to work and aren't sure why so have offered a cheaper brand which works fine with the system for a reduced price.

As you can imagine a little disconcerting seeing as the PSU is a very well known brand and they don't seem to work at all in the build and it was one from the Review section. Asked if they wouldn't mind trying the enthusiast 750w and 850w as wanted to check in case we had problems come sli time. They've been very accomodating and are trialling both for us with a view to return the system on Monday next week.

Have been kept informed and have had a quick turn around so very happy with the service so far, cheers guys and girls.

Great to hear you and PCS are working together to get your system working, top news. Here's to getting it back next week mate. The HX750 Modular would be a good call if it works.

Good to hear progress is being made.
A bad PSU would have been very difficult for you to identify without a replacement.

I hope you get a swift return.

Thanks mate, I'm itching to get it back.

Will pop up a thread once everything is back and in place with pictures etc, not the most exciting build but it's always nice to see pictures

Turned up Tuesday as I was informed by PCS, have been busy putting a few games back on etc and it been great so far :)

But the icing on the cake: Came home this evening pretty flaked out as I've had to put in far too many hours at work recently covering for illness etc and the gf says she'll give me an early birthday present (wahey) she hand me what turned out to be a dvi cable and hid the new monitor in the bedroom. Dual monitors? Why the hell not
