New PC build: Help

Good evening guys,

Just looking for some ideas on a build, I have a Zotak AMP Extreme 1080 already, so don't need a GPU. I just would like some help with the rest. Ideally looking around £1500 if possible, with a CPU that's 5 years future proof as my current system appears to bottleneck. Really want to run everything just from an SSD, unless that hinders my systems for gaming?

Thanks!

I'm not sure there's any such thing as guaranteed future-proof in gaming.

Savings could include a cheaper case (e.g. Fractal Define S), CS650 PSU, and the Noctua cooler, all of which would be more than adequate. Though if you want to feed your GPU as much fresh air as possible, and may consider an SLI / multi GPU setup in future, then the above would be worth considering.

How does this compare to the new Ryzen CPU, are they better or worse? As they are close in the price bracket. Thanks for the help guys

For gaming, the top end Ryzen (R7 1800x) is not as good as the 7700k.

Would having everything on a single SSD hinder me at all?
No, or I don't see how it would. Obviously back up your data as you would with any storage :)

You may eventually find yourself wanting to add an HDD for mass storage, especially if you accumulate saved gameplay videos, screenshots, etc etc. But adding more storage is very easy as PC DIY upgrades go and the case and motherboard would support a decent amount more storage.

The only thing you need to keep in mind is all your eggs are in one basket. As long as you are mindful that you can lose the data on your system at any time and keep backups of the important stuff it will be fine.

I would ALWAYS have a storage drive on my system. It's amazing how quickly things add up and I prefer to organise my "junk" on a storage drive rather than in the documents folder etc.

To be clear, it's not really any smarter to have, say, 4x 250gb SSDs rather than 1x 1TB one. Because you then have 4x as many drives that could fail. The solution is to back up, not split things over multiple drives and hope none of them fails.

I know that's not what Scotster was advocating, it just seemed that was a possible misreading of it. :)
