New PC for 3D modelling

Hello, I am looking to get a new pc for the purpose of 3D modelling using blender. I'll also use the machine for gaming and leisure, but 3D modelling is the main important thing.
I'll need to do simulations and animations, so both a strong CPU and GPU are required.
I have set myself a budge of ideally about £2000, But I'm willing to go up higher, to lets, say £2500. Any advice to save some money is fine.
I'm honestly not too knowledgeable about hardware, so some guidance and advice would be very much appreciated.

AMD Ryzen 9 7950X 16 Core CPU (4.5GHz-5.7GHz/80MB CACHE/AM5) (Blender generally seems to be better on intel processors, but I read to stay away from them for now. I don't whether I should go for the amd ryzen 9 9900x or 9 7950x. I'm not sure if this is still the case, but I was told that blender only uses single threads for simulations, so I need faster single core speed rather than more cores.)

I think I will just go for the 2070 ti super and wait an extra few days
I noticed that you put in an extra ssd. Is the second ssd important and necessary? In my old PC, I had a small ssd and just put all my games and projects into the hdd, and old project files into an external drive.
Old PC isn't with me anymore, sadly. so can't transfer my windows licence, but thank you for the suggestion.

Things have changed quite a bit gaming-wise now. Some games releasing now won't play on a HDD at all and those that do are so slow (as an example, Forza Horizon games load to the point where I'm in a car and driving in about 20-30 seconds on an M.2 SSD...with my old Xbox One X which has a HDD, it can take 2 minutes). The reason behind 2 drives is the smaller faster drive is for WIndows and program files...the second drive is for games and projects.

I posted another build in a similar thread. I would want the latest tech in a professional build so would look at the X870 paired with the 9950X. It adds a fair bit to the budget but the performance difference is decent with the 16 core chip.

If you're considering top tier on the GPU down the line (4090 type card) then you'll want an ATX3.1 PSU in there (the shift is that).

Clearly over budget but I think justified and worth the investment.

Outside of mass storage for backups or irregular use files mechanical HDDs are pretty much redundant at this point. They are fantastic for mass storage on a budget, but not for actual used storage.

I would actually consider 3 M2 drives in your shoes, with the 3rd acting as a cache/fast storage drive but that's a luxury.

Thank you, that was a very informative read, I think I understand now. I think I will go for a double SSD build now. No HHD and instead I'll just store my old project files on an external drive.

I also read your other post where you gave advice to another person also building a PC for blender. You said his original build has some bottlenecks. I noticed that the build I came up with is similar to the one you replied to. Below was the build I had after taking into account of what Figment's said. Do you think it has bottlenecks? (EDIT: Sorry, I read two posts by you and got both of them jumbled in my mind. But I'd still like to know if there are any bottle neck problems with the one below).

Bottlenecks, no. It's a solid build.

There are considerations though:

I would opt for a bigger case when looking at proper long renders/utilisation. The 5000D Airflow has a bit more height and room to allow circulation.

7950X is previous generation, the 9950X is the current generation. It has good performance gains in a number of areas. This is an expensive upgrade but worth considering.

The X870 Motherboard is actually cheaper than the X670 and comes with some nice new features. I think this is a no brainer.

H115i is a great cooler. If you wanted a bit more (not a lot, but ever little helps) the H150i is worth considering. The H115i is the quietest of the bunch though.

The 1000w RMx PSU is a previous generation PSU. It's a good strong PSU, ideally suited to the likes of the 4070Ti, but doesn't fare well for the future. Next generation PSUs are alleged to be very power hungry. There are transient spikes to consider as well. Modern PSUs are ATX3.1 and have mechanisms in place, as well as overhead, to deal with the transient spikes without crashing to desktop or any other strange behaviour. In honesty I wouldn't have an older gen PSU in a modern build with a healthy budget. It's just not somewhere to scrimp. The 750w RMe PSU would actually handle spikes better than the 1000w PSU due to it being ATX3.1. I wouldn't go lower than 850w for the Ti though, even with ATX3.1, so the only option is the 1200w shift model.

Most of the changes I adopted in my suggestion. The only one I left out was the H150i, as it wasn't a particularly justified upgrade.... just a belt and braces addition.

I’m not sure the X870 (non-E) offers much over the X670E, as it’s basically a refreshed/renamed B650E with USB4 & WiFi 7. That’s probably why it’s cheaper than a X670E.

They are seriously nice boards, I've had Asus and Gigabyte in the past, my ASRock just walks all over them both. If Capt. Picard says so ... 🫡 There is still time before I go home, but I will definitely keep an eye on it.

Not sure. I think they're comparable though. PCIE5.0 and USB4 are quite compelling in a single unit. Only the Creator offers that and its silly money. Chipset lanes is the real bump which I found a minefield trying to navigate. If you use this M2 you can't use X16, but if you use this one, you lose PCIE4.0 X16 and only get X4....

It really depends on the M2 aspirations. Where are the E boards though, are they delayed on release or does PCS just not supply them outside of the top end.

Aorus might be worth a look tbh. I automatically skip GB just now but in the past I really liked them. For £20 over the TUF you get the E.

It's ridiculous tbh. It's good to have some selection but it's getting far too much nowadays. Having "E" versions of the different models is a nightmare.

I think I'll swap out the motherboard, PSU and tower for the ones you suggested. I didn't understand a thing you and tony said in the last few posts, but I assume the x870 is still good 😆

I don't think it'll relate to you in your usage. The only consideration would be dual GPUs down the line as that may limit the M2 quantity.

I genuinely wouldn't worry too much. I think for the £ the X870 is a slightly better option for you, but it's down to personal requirements. USB4 is a big draw, and advertisement for the new platform, but again..... outside of going faster than fast and allowing certain interface options...... you won't know unless you need faster than fast or those interface options (Thunderbolt).

AMD has been behind the 8 ball with Thunderbolt. This is the a large step into the tech, which is a very good thing for professionals IMO. I really like TB and it's, now, universal option across platforms.

I could be wrong, and please correct me if I am, but I think it only guarantees TB3? That's still great as well, obviously, but I think you need to go premium-mmur for TB4.

I was sure I had read it a little while back. Quite clever in the terminology, as always. There are TB4 options, but from what I remember they were fairly premium. Creators being one. My motherboard has TB4, even on the X670, but it also needs configured as such in the BIOS.... I've never really understood why though.
