New Spec Advice

Hi all.

Just after some advice regarding this spec and if anything is worth changing? The build will be used purely for gaming, mostly FPS hence why I've chosen the 24.5" 240hz monitor. I will also be purchasing as 27" 1440p monitor in a couple of months.

Budget is around what this spec has cost give or take a few quid. I'm not fussed with the new RTX GPUs as the 1080ti will be more than sufficient for the games I'll play.

Also with new Intel CPUs due out I was going to wait but i imagine the price and availability may not be worth the wait. However again this is something I'd like opinions on.

This is bonkers I'm afraid to say.

The RTX 2080 is replacing the 1080 ti at a similar price point and appears to offer more performance.

Furthermore, the Asus 1080 ti is £877. It's actually more expensive than even PCS's prices for an RTX 2080 :/ (which is £26 less..)

Or you could order the system without a GPU, buy your own RTX 2080 for £715, and pocket the difference.

I'd at least recommend waiting until 14th Sept which is when the reviews of the RTX GPUs will be out.

1st Hard Disk
2TB SEAGATE BARRACUDA PRO 3.5", 7200 RPM 128MB CACHE
The "Pro" HDDs are ludicrously expensive (over double the price) of a regular HDD, and for gaming there's no merit at all to them. But companies have worked out you can slap "Pro" on something and people will buy it even if they're not using the machine in a production environment.

If spending that much on an HDD you would be better off buying a 5TB regular HDD which will be about twice as fast.

Intel are expected to release new CPUs possibly as early as September (preorders have popped up on some sites already..). So I'd wait and get one of those if spending almost £3k on a PC. For the higher frequencies, and the additional cores. And the IHS is soldered too.

Dude, literally the only brand PCS specify is Seagate

Sure, the non-brand specified drives could be Toshiba or Hitachi or maybe even WD, but the only ones they offer by name are Seagate. It's not like the OP has much choice ;P

I see... I wasn't quite sure where the 2080 and 1080ti would be in terms of performance without actual benchmarks. But you do make a valid point. There's no harm in waiting until then.

And thank you for the CPU advice. Again this is what I was after in terms of other opinions. Hopefully they will release in September.

As for the HDD I honestly didn't even realise I'd selected a pro version, so thank you for pointing that out. For now I'll hold out until at least the 14th before committing to any purchase.
