New SSD

Hi all,

I currently have an ASUS PRIME B550-PLUS motherboard currently installed with a 1TB INTEL 670p M.2 NVMe PCIe SSD.

I want to buy a samsung 980 pro SSD to use as my OS on the seconds SSD slot and the intel as my games storage (running). Would 500gb be sufficient or shall i go for the 1TB? is it an easy process exporting the OS to the new samsung SSD? not really too sure on the process.

Thanks in advance.

You might want to put the Intel SSD into the 2nd slot as it's a PCIe 3.0 slot and won't make any difference to the speed you'll get.

But the 1st m.2 slot is PCIe 4.0, so will be able to take advantage of the faster Samsung 980 Pro you want to fit. If it's just for the OS/apps then 500GB would be fine.

Remember that fitting an SSD to the 2nd m.2 slot will disable SATA 5/6 ports - so ensure there's nothing using them.

So i have changed over my SSD and put the faster SSD in the first slot and installed windows... when i installed windows it didn't say which was which and there both 1TB. How do i find out if ive installed windows to the faster SSD? It said one ssd was unallocated so i assume this is the intel in the second ssd slot?
