Have you been to the audio settings in Nvidia Control Panel?
Have you been to Windows sounds and right clicked to show all playback devices?
If you see a relevant output in Windows sounds open properties and makes sure the level is all the way up.
Could be different for you but I get this issue EVERY time I connect my laptop to the TV.
What resolves it for me is when I get the issue I remove the HDMI plug from the laptop for a few seconds then reconnect it.
I don't know why this works but for me it does.
have you tried updating the sound driver for your motherboard not GPU (Nvidia)
I fixed it - it was a problem with drivers and Nvidia optimus. It was disabled in Intel settings as it probably thought it was up to the GTX to do it, but it was also disabled in the GTX.
I uninstalled everything to do with Intel on my laptop and restarted it, then windows update reinstalled Intel drivers, but then I reinstalled the Intel drivers provided by PCS, along with audio drivers again (just for the sake of it), and then when I restarted my laptop the HDMI choice appeared in the sound options.
Thanks everyone
PCS is short for PCSpecialist who own these forums and sell custom built PCs and laptops and they provide drivers for their PCs/laptopsand what is "PCS"?.
